I have been going to Mann Eye for years, but it is time to find a new doctor. I booked an 8:00 am appointment so they didn't get backed up during the day before I got there. I showed up at 7:52 and checked myself in. I waited until 8:30 and still hadn't been called back. I checked with the front desk and was told "someone back there has your paperwork ". I waited another 15 minutes and still didn't get called back. Finally had to cancel the appointment and leave. They need to get more organized and start caring about their patients time more like they did years ago.

BE CAREFUL DOING BUSINESS HERE! I bought some glasses in June 22nd. When I arrived home I noticed the frame was warped and the glass case was oversized and the glasses were swooshing in the case. The case didn't even match the frame. When I took the glasses back, the manager (Wendy), pulled the display frame, popped out the lenses, transferred my lenses into the display frame. I also noticed my lenses weren't even glass; I was having double vision that was taking 24 hours to correct. It was SCARY. I left a message for the Director, David Brown, and he never called me. I contacted the president of the company and I got no response. In September I get a call back from David Brown because I said I was going to escalate this legally. David Brown agreed to refund me 100%. October, I called the insurance company and the refund still had not occurred. The insurance calls the manager Wendy and the refund is processed, however, Wendy refuses to refund the eye exam. In order for me to purchase glasses from Mann Eye, I had to have an eye exam. They refused to refund me 100%. Mann Eye sold me used glasses with cheaper lenses and an oversized case that didn't even match. Is it that profit is more important? BE CAREFUL IN DOING BUSINESS HERE!

I normally visit the Deerbrook location (which I love). But this year, I decided to switch to the Main Office location because I live in central Houston. I was scheduled to see Dr. Chin today for an annual eye exam and new contacts & glasses prescription. When I arrived to the facility, I was assigned a doctor's assistant named Vanessa. In all fairness, all of the staff members were cordial. But I was in Vanessa's care for almost an hour (which was very confusing). I was alarmed to have received almost 80% of my eye exam care from the assistant and NOT the doctor. For one whole hour, the assistant proceeded to perform an eye exam, run tests (including eye dilation) and confirm my new prescription. I have NEVER had a doctor's assistant perform so much of an eye exam that is typically expected from the actual doctor. Throughout my visit, I communicated to the assistant (and later the doctor) my discomfort with the assistant performing so much of my assessment. When the doctor (Dr. Chin) finally came into my room (an hour after my scheduled appointment time), she was not going to fully examine me. She was going to rely on the results from the assistant's assessment of my eyes. I forced Dr. Chin to re-examine my eyes for new prescription accuracy. However, my frustration intensified when I couldn't confidently complete the doctor's exam since my eyes were already dilated. I have NEVER initially seen a doctor AFTER my eyes have been dilated. I am accustomed to having a doctor examine my eyes BEFORE dilation and also AFTER dilation. It appears as if the many assistants on the floor are given way too many doctor responsibilities, allowing the time for the doctor to spend with the patient to be very short. I was livid about my appointment today. I have already made a review about today's appointment on Yelp. I have been annually seeing an eye doctor for over 25 years. I have never been seen like I was seen today. And to know that I had to pay $275 for basically a doctor's assistant to see me is a complete joke. Also, Dr. Chin proceeded to tell me ON HER WAY OUT OF THE ROOM that I have early stages of cataracts. Now why she didn't proceed to tell me that information when she was sitting down in the room, confuses me. I was treated like a freaking number, not a real patient today. I have absolutely no intention on returning to the Main office location. And I intend to tell everyone about my visit on today.

This review is strictly for the 5115 Main Street location only.DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT go to this location. I felt like I was at an assembly plant. To give context, I've been wearing glasses since 1988. I switched to wearing contacts in 1996. Every single year (since 1988), I have been seeing an eye doctor for an annual exam and prescription refill (whether that be for glasses or contacts). My point in saying that is to say that I'm not brand new when it comes to visiting an eye doctor. I normally visit the Mann Eye Deerbrook location (which I love). But since I live in central Houston, I thought it would be more feasible to switch to a central Houston location like 5115 Main Street.I will NEVER go back to this location...NEVER EVER EVER!!! They have way too many patients and not enough doctors; therefore, creating the presumption of having all of these "assistants". I was scheduled to see Dr. Chin and my assigned assistant for the visit was named Vanessa. To be fair, all of the staff that I interacted with was friendly. However, I have NEVER (and I repeat) NEVER had a doctor's assistant complete 80% of the eye exam and that included examining my eye, dilating and running additional tests on my eye and determining my prescription (I REPEAT)...DETERMINING MY PRESCRIPTION!!! WTF??!! All of this was done BEFORE...BEFORE...BEFORE the doctor came into the room and looked at me at all. I spent a whole hour in the patient room with THE ASSISTANT while she examined me and wrote what felt like a whole periodical in my chart. I mentioned on a number of occasions (to the assistant) that their way of patient review was very foreign to me and I was not comfortable. When the doctor finally came into the room (an hour after my scheduled appointment time), she was not planning on examining me to determine whether my eye prescription has changed. Did you hear what I said??? She was going to rely on THE ASSISTANT'S findings. ABSOLUTLY NOT!! I made the doctor (Dr. Chin) re-examine my eyes. But guess what...there wasn't a whole lot of confidence in my exam because MY EYES WERE ALREADY FREAKING DIALATED!!! I CAN'T SEE SHIT!!! Again, I've ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS had an eye doctor personally examine my eyes BEFORE AND AFTER eye dilation. I'm self pay. My eye exam is typically around $180-$200 (which includes exam and eye dilation at the lovely Deerbrook location). I ended up paying $275 because the assistant gave me a number of tests that I didn't know I could choose from. I was livid with my experience at the 5115 Main location and they knew it. I will NOT recommend them to anyone. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, go here. Pick a location in the suburbs. The suburb locations are smaller and way more attentive. The suburb doctors actually examine their patients instead of relying on assistants to do it.
