First I'm going to share some things I wish I knew before LASIK gave me a life sentence of screwed up vision. It's absolutely critical that you hear the other side of the LASIK controversy from patients and doctors like Ed Boshnick or Morris Waxler who do not recommend the procedure.Later I'll talk about my issues with Mann Eye. Full disclosure: My surgery was done at a different highly rated practice in Austin in 2019. But I doubt my outcome would have been much better at Mann Eye based on my experience during second opinions there, plus what I know more generally about modern LASIK now.Consider the 30,000 foot view: You have very little to gain from LASIK. Glasses and soft contacts are a minor inconvenience. If you're struggling with them I'd suggest finding a better optometrist and trying the solutions they offer first. New options are on the market now if you were previously unable to tolerate contacts. You can order prescription glasses online from Zenni Optical for $20-ish nowadays btw, no insurance required. For starting on your LASIK due diligence, I'd suggest reading up on some of the bad press/investigative journalism piling up about LASIK (note the numbers from some of the cited studies):nytimes.com/2018/06/11/wwsj.com/articles/dominanYou should also read everything on this website too:lasikcomplications.com/rAre you really OK with risking about a 20% chance of the more common issues that clinical trials and studies report patients ending up with? Look at the actual data, not what the advertising is saying or anecdotal claims from people you know who were happy with their own "good" outcome that you might actually hate if you ended up with it.The significantly smaller effective optical zone resulting from refractive surgeries versus what soft contacts or glasses can provide can drastically lower the quality of your vision in dim/dark settings, particularly if you have large pupils. The vision chart is such an old-school way to measure vision that you may be able to read the 20/20 line just fine after LASIK but still end up with awful aberrations like halos and starbursts like me.More technical details here from Dr Boshnick:sclerallens.com/lasik/61Do you care about the differences between OLED vs LED displays, or HDR vs SDR content? If so, I believe you're much less likely to be happy with your LASIK outcome especially if you have large pupils on top of that like I do. Lots of people like their post-LASIK vision, but keep in mind lots of people think Applebee's serves amazing food. Also consider the fact that there is a large and very active facebook group that only accepts LASIK patients seeking help with complications as members. It's at close to 8,000 members now with more joining all the time. You should consider the rare but very real possibility that LASIK could leave you disabled and unable to work like some of the poor souls in that group. I believe these injured patients I see posting had healthy eyes and only required simple glasses or contacts before LASIK.From what I have read there is no way to predict which patients will end up with some of the most devastating complications like corneal neuralgia. Seems like reason enough for the FDA to pull the plug on this unnecessary surgery.By the time I had a second opinion with Dr Barker I had learned a lot more about what had happened to me. I was curious about how Mann Eye screens for pupil size. Infrared pupillometers have been around for a long time and can accurately measure pupil size in the dark. However, the technician at Mann Eye used a primitive $10 pupil pen light gauge she held up next to my eyes to try to compare my pupils to circles on the side of the pen. She said my pupils measured 6.5mm. I asked Dr Barker why they don't use an infrared pupillometer. He told me they are too expensive. I told him I was able to find used Colvard pupillometers on ebay for a few hundred dollars. He simply repeated his claim that they are too expensive. I asked him what planned optical zone he would have used had he performed my surgery. He said 6.5mm, which is the typical modern LASIK OZ. He did say my pupils were on the larger end of the spectrum, but didn't say anything to indicate he thought this would be a problem. In reviewing my own medical records I was able to find a pupil size scan showing my pupil size to be MUCH larger than 6.5mm.I don't think there's any excuse for not using the best technology to give more accurate informed consent about the level of post-surgery halos based on pupil size, planned OZ of the surgery, original refractive error, etc. But this appears to be an industry-wide problem. So, does LASIK really seem worth it? Remember, you can never go back.

Dr. Paul Mann doesnt give good prescription to the patients. He only spent perhaps 2 minutes with us, and he doesnt care about the patients. He only cares about money.

Terrible office practices Had an 8 am appointment on a Tuesday. Arrived at 755 am. It is now 0942 and still in waiting room. This is a quick laser cleaning on a newly replaced lens. Paid copayment and was told that Dr. Mann has meetings on Tuesday and was running behind. With the office staff knowing this fact upfront. Why set 8 am appointments and have people wait for two hours in a waiting room. Then when asked we were told we were next and then the took others back. The procedure and doctors not an issue here. Its 100% a scheduling and office management issue.

This place is a joke. If there was zero star, I would have given it,2 problems :1- After getting my check up done. Instead of asking you whether you want to get your glasses there or go somewhere else, they will automatically show you what they have to choose from, salespeople pressure.2- they texted me to go pick up my glasses that I paid over $500 for . I asked for my prescription so I can buy some more affordable glasses from a reputable online company. I was denied to have my prescription. Because I was old that Mann Eye policy doesnt allow patients to have the details prescription. What kind of policy is that ??This ought to be illegal as it is my medical record and I am Entitled by law to have one. I email David Brown the regional boss explaining what happened. It has been a few days now, no response. This is unprofessionalism at its core.My advice, stay away from Mann Eye .Look for another company that values customers/ patients.I will never go back there again.

I have been a client of this office for some years and my Optometrist is one of the best. Unfortunately, my experience this morning has discouraged me from ever visiting this practice again. I have a different insurance provider than the last time I visited the office and shared this prior to my appointment. When my husband and I arrived to check in the desk clerk indicated that there was no active coverage found for us. The other desk clerk interjected that she tried to verify coverage also and nothing was found. My largest frustration is that even after I expressed that I had entirely different coverage and that it was active there was no effort from the office to accommodate me or offer contingencies. I stood at the desk for 10 minutes searching my email for pertinent info to assist and finally I had to ask the clerk was she trying to get back in contact with my provider. Ultimately, I felt ignored, disregarded, and discriminated against. After sitting in the office lobby for over 45 min and missing both appointments, I discovered that I DO HAVE ACTIVE VISION COVERAGE. If the clerks took the time to solve for me Mann Eye would not have lost clients today.
