This is a long review, but it's for my entire experience.I walked in for my free consultation for Lasik on Thursday. I was always curious, but not too hopeful since I've always been told my prescription is too bad. The next day, Friday, I walked back in..for Lasik! Yes, it happened that fast!Let me start with the staff. The receptionists and Nick are some of the best people on the planet. I wish I could bring them with me everywhere because of how sweet and genuine they are. The rest of the "normal" staff, including the doctor (not the surgeon and assistants) actually seemed to be a little overwhelmed, and consequently gave the impression they couldn't be bothered. My surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Melton, may be my favorite medical professional ever. I recommend her 10000000%, especially to people with a lot of anxiety. The whole process is all easy, but not very quick. I like that..it means they're thorough. They do many vision tests and examinations of your eyes, both with technology and the traditional methods. They make absolute sure you're a good candidate for Lasik before proceeding. Feel free to ask all the questions you want, no matter how silly you feel asking them. They're there to make you comfortable and informed. At the end of it all, when I was looking at the cost, I asked "so..if I agree to this, when will I be able to see?" That's when I was informed I could have the surgery the NEXT DAY! Whaaaat?! And I did!Okay, now the surgery. After a few more tests, medicine, and some drops, I was ready to change my life. While waiting just outside the room where they do the procedure, the surgeon came and talked to me. Dr. Melton is an angel and will ease all your worries. Seriously, request her! She and her assistants walked me through everything and told me what was happening as it happened. They even sang a little to calm me down. Here is the main question I get asked... Did it hurt? Yes and no. The first part of the procedure hurt because there is a lot of pressure being applied. It isn't sharp, throbbing, or unbearable pain. It's pressure, but it still hurt me.The laser? Having your eyelids held open with hooks? A sharp tool rearranging the flap on your cornea?? NOPE! I did not feel a thing!! I was SO concerned about not being able to blink for "so long" (10-20 seconds). I felt like I *could* blink. Maybe it's because I was blinking my other eye, and the one being operated on at the time had the same muscle twitches..but it felt like I was blinking, which was AWESOME! By the way, I didn't even know there were hooks under my eyelids until I saw the video my fiance took. I knew they were putting tape on my eyelids..but I thought that was it. I seriously had no idea! Since I'm a weirdo and love things like this, I had my fiance record the whole thing through the window on the door. So bizarre!Recovery. My vision was foggy for the first 24 hours, but..I could see! Such an incredible feeling. I had to wear these shields over my eyes for the entire first day, and only when I slept for the 5 days following. I had light sensitivity for a day or two because I wasn't putting my drops in as often as I should have. I already had dry eyes, so Lasik made it so much worse. Instead of the standard "one drop every two hours" for artificial tears, I had to put drops in every 30 minutes. So..listen to your body on that. Trust me, the more drops, the better. I'm still recovering, but I'm so very excited for the future. I can see when putting eye makeup on! I can see in the shower! (Okay, maybe I can do without that one..) I can get out of my vehicle or house without my glasses fogging up! I am not out of commission when my glasses are broken! No more do I have to depend on those two pieces of glass to live my life. I am free.I am so glad I came here. Thank you, Mann Eye Institute.
