I have only been in this office for a short while thus far - but it was long enough to be very impressed.

As I described in a previous review for West Coast Retina, I had the unfortunate luck to have a retinal detachment in August, 2007 - on my 4th day of work.

When I began to experience a shade in my right vision and suspected something was going on, I called my husband and asked him to find me a retinal specialist...somehow he found these people in our Cigna Directory, called them to explain the situation, and they were able to fit me in....

Although I had to wait for a seemingly endless amount of time in the waiting room (the only reason I'm giving them less than 5 stars), I give them major props for quickly recognizing what was going on, and then referring me on to West Coast Retina - who performed emergency eye surgery on me the next day and saved my vision.

In particular, I give top thanks and kudos to Dr. Anne Fung - the highly talented doctor who serves as the specialist in their practice for the type of problem I was experiencing.

While Dr. Fung had had a very busy day, she treated me with the utmost respect and courtesy, gave me her full attention and was then saavy enough to get her colleagues at West Coast Retina on the phone and convince them that the NEEDED to see me (both because I was in danger and also because I guess it allowed for a cool surgery!) - even though it was late on a Friday afternoon.

Once she had convinced them to see me, she went above and beyond by asking how I had gotten to their office (my boss had driven me) and then arranging to call a cab for me so that I could get over there as soon as possible...she also asked West Coast Retina to keep her updated on my progress - indicating to me that she really cared.

I don't know much more about this practice at this point, but I look forward to working with them further as my regular eye practice - and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone with risk for retinal detachment!

This review is specifically about Dr. Scott C. So at Pacific Eye Associates.

I am a dog-walker and pet-sitter. One of the dogs that I was caring for, a lovable 11 lb chihuahua was so excited when I woke up Friday morning, that before I could even sit up, he ran up the bed, jumped on my face and landed on my eye. Excruciating doesn't even begin to describe it...
I couldn't open my eye for almost 3 hours, and when you have trauma in one eye, it's really difficult to see out of the other one as well. A dear friend of mine came over to make an eye doctor appointment for me since I couldn't see, and she just picked the first doctor who took my insurance, and it happened to be Dr. Scott So at Pacific Eye Associates.

I know that having a dog step on your eye is kind of funny, but I was in some serious pain and distress. This man was dismissive, rude, condescending and had all the medical compassion of stinging spider. I only discovered these lovely qualities about him after he kept me waiting for close to 40 minutes. An assistant/nurse saw me sitting there and had to remind him twice that I was waiting. He finally comes in, and when I hold out my hand to shake his, he says "That's ok, I'm not going to shake your hand." At the end of the appointment, he explained that was because in case I had something viral and/or contagious, he didn't want to pick it up. However, since he didn't explain that at the time, he seemed like the rudest person on the planet. Great first impression, Dr. Douchebag.
I tell him what happened to me, he seemed far more amused than concerned. He determines that there is a scratch on my eye, and he wants to dilate my pupils to see if there is any internal damage and says that is going to take another half an hour. I was in pain and feeling a lil' snippy at that point, so I said, "I had no idea it was going to take this long."
He said, "is that ok?" and I replied, "do I have another option?" His answer to that was "You're an adult. You can do whatever you want. You can leave, it would be against medical advice, but you can go."
I gave him as much of an icy glare as I could with one eye that would barely open, and told him I'd stay.

You have choice of eye doctors in the city, so there is no need to choose Dr. Scott So, unless you want someone who is going to neglect you, talk down to you, and generally be an ass. This man was so rude to me that I refuse to see another doctor in his practice. I don't want anything to do with someplace that finds it ok to treat patients like that.

Excellent! I don't have insurance so they treated my rare eye condition without making me have an expensive MRI. Also, they quickly got me an appointment with Dr. Reader who is apparently not an easy man to see. The only downside is the waiting... I had to wait for almost an hour because the doctor had to do an emergency procedure on the patient before me.

I am seeing Scott So M.D. at Pacific Eye Associates and would recommend him to everyone. He has a great sense of humor and takes time to consult with the patient. I like his approach towards solving problems. I think eye visits are somewhat stressful and you need someone who can put you at ease. Scott So is great at this. He is very young and I appreciate the time he give to his patients. Moreover, when necessary, he brings in other MDs. I like his team approach and lack of arrogance. Moreover, it requires time to visit an Ophthalmologist. He needs to dilate the eye and this take time. Dr. So takes the time to ask about my how I feel and provides complete explanation's. I have called him on weekend and he has taken the time to see me if necessary. Even when he saw my 5 year daughter with me he made her laugh and feel comfortable. I think his job is difficult with many tasks, however my wife is very thankful for the time he has given to me. She is a Nurse at CPMC and the nurses love him. If Nurse love him, this is a good sign!

I have been to Pacific Eye Associates twice now - both for annual checkups. I was examined by Dr. Anne Fung. I like her. She did a thorough exam and gave me some good suggestions for my dry eyes (too much computer use, anyone?). I also like the fact that she didn't do a hard-sell on glasses...a major pet peeve of mine.
