This review isn't for Dr. So himself, but for his assistant. I never had a chance to talk to Dr. So. I called several times to request an appointment. His assistant (scheduler) told me that I need to agree to have my eyes dilated during the visit. I explained it to her that I couldn't do that due to my eye condition. She then told me I therefore couldn't get the appointment. With common sense, it'll make sense if she says the doctor will decide whether to dilate the eyes. I don't think I would want to deal with a practice like this as the assistant is so overbearing. what is the actual doctor going to be like?

I took the time to call this office two timesto schedule an appointment as well as requesting online. No response at all.If theyre not taking new patients they should advise on answering machine or website Instead of wasting peoples time. Unprofessional office as far as I can tell.

My grandma had an appointment with him, and she went with her caregiver. When he went into the room where they had been told to wait for him, he came in with a horrible attitude. He was rude to my mother when she asked him a single question because my grandmother does not speak English. He would not even take the time to look at her past medical files and did not do any examinations on my grandmother. He was in the room for approximately 3 minutes when he stood up and said, have a nice day, with an incredibly rude tone. My mother, the caregiver, was begging the doctor to do a medical examination on her. However, he would look her dead in the eye and repeat himself, "Have a nice day." This caused my grandmother, a cancer patient and a person with diabetes, to spike her blood pressure, which sent her to the emergency room. My grandmother's amount of stress that day with her appointment with Scott So is completely unacceptable. This person should lose his medical license immediately for his unprofessionalism.

I'm sorry I didn't read these reviews of Pacific Eye Associates before I went to them several years ago. I've had an excellent experience with the two ophthalmologists I've seen there, as has my husband. But I only went in once a year from the East Bay and until now I didn't have to deal much with the front office except to make appointments. Recently, Dr. Zaidi, my Pacific Eye ophthamologist, referred me to Dr. Charlson in the Pacific Eye office to treat me for a tear duct blockage. After our meeting, she handed me my folder to give to the front desk and asked me to book surgery for the eye. I was surprised that she assumed I would rush into surgery when I first needed to find out more about the process.Even though this is "minor" surgery from Dr. Charlson's perspective, for me, at my age (81), any surgery is major, so I left feeling shocked. When I got home, I did a lot of research on the problem that stirred many questions I wanted answered before I went ahead with surgery. I submitted those questions to Dr. Charlson in an email that had to go through the main office. She apparently didn't want to answer them in writing and, I guess, told the office to have me make a new appointment so we could discuss them.Since the Pacific Eye Associates website invites patients to book telemedical appointments, as does the phone message a patient hears before talking to anyone, I responded that I'd prefer to meet via video. We're in the midst of a serious phase of the pandemic, the reason why digital meetings were held in the first place, and the office is usually very busy and often there are long wait times. Why would I take that risk when a video visit or phone call was an option? Also, spending an hour each way driving over two bridges from the East Bay at my age didn't appeal to me either. At that time I didn't know how emails or phone calls from patients are handled by staff, but I just learned they are triaged, meaning whoever receives them in the front office decides what the response will be. So apparently my emailed questions to the doctor didn't reach her. I didn't know then about the triaging and spent a horrendous week trying to set up a telemedicine appointment with Dr. Charlson. I was told she wanted me to make an appointment. So then I phoned and asked whoever answered to please give her a message explaining why I'd like to meet by video or phone. I never heard back from that telephone answerer. So I sent another email to the office. I was told again that I couldn't meet with her by video. After a couple of more go arounds via email, I called again on Thursday and was told that Pacific Eye isn't offering video appointments at this time with no explanation of why not or when they might resume.Fed up, I finally asked the person I was talking to if she could give my referring doctor (Zaidi) a message so I could discuss what's going on and to ask for a referral to an East Bay ophthalmologist. Of course, that message didn't go through.I will no longer deal with the inefficiency of the front office and the way patients are dealt with there even though I liked very much Dr. Zaidi and my first doctor there, Anne Fung. Communications are a terrible problem and the staff can be nasty to deal with.
