I am sad to report that the negative comments are actually true. I am appalled at how the front desk staff's attitudes with patient check-in and inquiries are. When asked to speak to a supervisor, Billy's attitude seemed even more confrontational. Honestly, patients that go to a medical practice already have medical issues or not feeling well, the front of staff are the first impressions of the business they show to patients. If you don't train your first point of contact on better EQ or attitude, with faith do we have in your practice? Consequently, called another practice nearby, asked about the same issues and concerns, their attitude was a thousand times better. Made me feel instantly at ease and trust that they will take care of me. How can two of the same businesses, in close proximity, be so different?

The worst office on earth. Rude and unsophisticated staff. I had an acute situation and was told to come in at a specific time to see the doctor, Dr. Charlson. I came in and the staff told me I couldn't see the doctor because I was not on the schedule at that time. The administrative staff and the doctors are completely separate. They make you wait and if you try to speak up, you get verbally assaulted by receptionists who use word like "ain't." Billy, the manager, was completely insensitive to my needs as a patient and made me feel terrible for doing what I was instructed to do by the doctor to come in. Then, when I finally got to see Dr. Charlson, she was professional but ice cold. I had had to see her a week earlier for a different issue. Three days later, my eye got all swollen and red and I called to try to get in to see her again as I had to fly out of town that weekend for an important career event. I called multiple times and her office would not give me an appointment. I told them that I was a long time patient and they didn't care they could not squeeze me into the schedule so I had to go find another doctor. When I went to see that new doctor, an old-time highly regarded San Francisco eye doctor, he asked why my doctor didn't see me with my eye looking the way it was, and I said I didn't know. I asked him don't you think she should've taken me? And he said yes. So then the weekend came around and my eye got more and more swollen and red. It turns out Dr. Charlson was the doctor on call. I called her once because she sent the medicine to the wrong pharmacy, and twice because my eye was so bad and hurting so much. The third time I called her was the day I was supposed to fly out and I ended up not taking my flight because my eye was so swollen and red and I was afraid it might be getting infected. When I called her I told her that it looked infected, and I wasn't sure if I should go to the ER. As soon as I said that, she told me to come in at 8:30 the next morning which I did. When I finally got to see her, she was defensive and very cold. She made a point of saying that I had called her three times over the weekend. What I should've told her is that she was the doctor on call and that was her job to treat patients with issues over the weekend. If she wasn't on call I would never have called her. I've given Dr. Charlson lots of business as a patient in the past. I've been a patient of the practice for 30 years. And I am quite shocked at the rude and disrespectful and belittling treatment by the staff and Dr. Charlson. It seems to me if you don't want to take care of your patients when they really do need it, why are you even a doctor? I've never had a doctor be so rude to me in my whole life when I was really in a bad spot and needed help. In the end she did treat me, which I greatly appreciate, but I really don't appreciate being berated, humiliated, and made to feel stupid for advocating for myself and trying to get my health issue taken care of. Eyelid specialists are very hard to come by in San Francisco. All I can say is if you can find anybody else you should do so. I have had such kind and professional treatment by certain doctors over the years at Pacific Eye Associates and the terrible experience came as a real shock. I think that management at CPMC should know how I was treated.

The optical department is a nightmare and all other staff won't help because they're "not part of optical". Was impossible to get in touch with someone (via email or phone). Finally got a 2pm appointment only to arrive to a sign saying they went on break. Waited 15 min and leftI will say once you get through the horrendous scheduling, Dr Charlson and Dr Lee were really knowledgeable and pleasant.
