Went to this place as it was included in my insurance preferred provider network. I have a standard vision plan and I wanted a standard eye exam. An in network PPO provider states that they will accept what they have negotiated with your insurance company. Eight months later I get a $400+ bill for a 30 minute exam that was covered by insurance and 30 days later the fraudsters at Pacific Eye Associates send my account to collections in an attempt to intimidate me into paying or else seeing my credit destroyed. DO NOT PATRONIZE THESE FRAUDULENT PHYSICIANS! THEY ARE DISHONEST AND UNETHICAL!!!

Since there have been so many complaints about this place, even the phone people, I wanted to write this review specifically about the process of making an appointment.

The first time I called, I choose the appropriate option, was asked to hold a brief while (about 2 minutes) and when I reach someone they asked me to hold and transferred me back to their phone options (I'm sure in error). So I again choose the correct option. This time I got a very helpful person.

I asked for an AFTERNOON appointment with Dr. Anne Fung (who is an excellent eye specialist), since I wanted an afternoon, I had to book the appointment about 6 weeks out, but that's fine because I dont want to go in in the morning. The woman said something about seeing another dr. for eye glasses first. I asked about this because I have read reviews that state that "they don't even give you an eye exam". It was explained to me that you see the optometrist first for an eye exam, then you see the dr. (or specialist). That makes perfect sense to me, and I have no problem with seeing two people.

As for the time, waiting, etc., yes these things are all true, but if you have any underlying health issues (as I do) and need to see a specialist to be sure that nothing is wrong (that a normal optometrist may miss), then this is the place to go.

Will they see me on time? I doubt it, I will expect to be there at least two hours, and will be sure I bring a book and a snack.

If you go there expecting to wait, have a good attitude, and just wait, knowing that you are seeing an extremely competent professional (at least in the case of Anne Fung), then you should be completely satisfied.

I will write another review at the end of July after my appointment to state how that part goes.

UPDATE:::
PS - day of my appt arrived; I parked in the underground garage no problem (yes you have to pay, what a shock, this is san fran!); my appt was 2:30pm, arrived at 2:20pm, no problems at all with front desk people (of course, i had gone on line, printed out their registration forms (even though I had been there before) and filled them all out so when I arrived I handed them the forms with my insurance card, took about 1 minute, thank you and I sat down;

was cld within 10 minutes or so for my eye exam with Dr. Ambarian - (very nice woman); after she was done, I was dialated and then waited to see Dr. Anne Fung (appt. was 3:30pm), saw Dr. Fung, she was her usual fabulous self....Finished up and was out of the office by 3:45 p.m.

I don't understand what the problem is here? perhaps people that have a problem with this office are entitled individuals or something? i had no problems at all with them, and I don't even live in the city anymore! I drove in 25 miles to see them.

My bottom line? Don't believe that these people are anything but great. If they are busy and you have to wait a bit, the so be it, bring a book and relax...

The doc was nice enough, but they totally abuse your time. They stick you in a small room and make you wait and wait. I got up and left once, told them to call when they were ready to see me. The second time I had to wait 40 minutes in that little room. Not going back.

Luckily I haven't had the poor medical experiences as others, I've found the medical staff to be competent. However the front office and business management is both a wreck and quite possibly a fraud. They charged me $370 for a standard eye exam and contact prescription. 2 years previous I paid $125 for the same thing there, and thought THAT was expensive. They've outsourced the billing department to another state, but if you call them, they'll say there's nothing they can do to adjust a bill. If you go to the office in person, they'll say only the outsourced billing group can make adjustments. That's no way to run a business. Save your money and go elsewhere.

This is not a place to which I ever want to return. Parking is a nightmare. Then I waited for over an hour to see a doctor for less than 10 minutes. She was surprised that my eyes hadn't been dilated and so she could only do a so-so eye exam for a problem that had concerned me for months.
it's also more expensive than most. So what's the draw? Beats me.
