The novelty of eating on a large boat gently swaying in the North-Eastern breeze quickly disappeared when the food arrived. The food was just ok. Sea food that you could have anywhere, really. The hype was bigger than the food itself. The ambiance is neat. You can see the water from most vantage points while you eat, and there are sea-faring pictures adorning the corridors. Was not sold on this place.

I have not been to DiMillos since it was in a building on Commercial St. In visiting the Portland area over the years I've not dined there because I, too, felt it was hyped to the "tourist" trade. After a Whale Watch cruise, we decided to give it go, as long as we could sit on one of the decks. The "ferry" is beautiful, very nicely decorated in the nautical style, elegant but not tacky. We sat on a deck with an awning overlooking the marina. Service was good, albeit a bit "rushy" at the end of our lunch. I had the traditional lobster roll. Very good, generous amount of fresh lobster on a toasted roll. Hubby had the Baja Crab melt sandwich, THIS was very good! I will certainly try to replicate it at home! All in all, I can see the detractors low ratings for the touristy feel to the place, but we had a nice lunch in a nice restaurant. I would recommend it, for lunch, to anyone!

Dimillo's is a must stop even for drinks when you are at the Portland waterfront. The last time I had dinner there we had a fantastic steak which had to be at least a inch and a half thick. I'm drooling just writing about this. To say that Dimillo's get crowed is a understatement. On weekends there can be a hour plus wait for a table. Make a stop for dinner at Dimillo's soon.

Typical tourist trap. Make you wait when the restaurant is half empty. Waiter was attentive. Food was mediocre and over priced. Too many good restaurants in Portland to waste your time with this one.

I'm on a boat! Yes, DiMillo's truly is a floating restaurant; what used to be a boat (well, technically, it's still a boat) is now a dining establishment with excellent quality food and a 360 degree view of the waterfront. Last year, we rushed through our lunch as we had to catch the Amtrak Downeaster back to Boston. This year, we drove up to Portland and parked in DiMillo's private lot. My Dad and I split the Wedge salad (definitely enough for 2) and I enjoyed the scallop sandwich, served on a roll reminiscent of a Lobster Roll -- the scallops were fried and it included a spicy jack cheese. For dessert, I had the bread pudding, which I enjoyed last summer. Overall, it's a nice experience. The meal takes some time (it may have been our friendly server, who was also taking care of a large group celebrating a birthday) and it was incredibly filling. Definitely a must visit when in Portland!
