Portland, ME, is my home town and I spent many a year working in the hotel industry. Visitors would always ask where the best place in town was for that quintessential Maine lobster experience. So, here's the thing... DiMillo's is on the waterfront, as are many other great Maine seafood joints. It's pretty hard to screw up lobster when the catch comes in daily from the boat at the next pier over. However, if you want Maine maritime dinner on the water, literally on the water (DiMillo's is a floating restaurant, a former NY Ferry boat if I have my history correct), there are countless other lobster shacks that in my opinion serve up a better lobster. If you want atmosphere, you go to DiMillo's and pay a few bucks more for it. If you don't care whether or not you have linen napkins or a fireplace to dine by, you go to any of the other hole in the wall lobster shacks. And yes, if you have never had lobster in Maine before, Mainers do expect you to put on the bib and be fearless with the claw cracker.

Great food . Service was great . Shay was excellent. The views of the bay were great on the side deck!

Went on a Sunday (before labor day). Parking was difficult but they have valet. Packed house. Service was good, as was the food. Not recommended if you don't eat seafood.

Loved the bar area overlooking the harbor! Excellent scallops wrapped in bacon and choice of brews. Fast and friendly staff.
