Wandering thorugh the cobblestone streets of Portland, Maine on a Saturday evening to the tune of a very lively night scene. A large ship at the end of the marina beckoned me and my travel buddy. We investigated. Upon initial approach were not sure that this massive boat had anything going on inside. Then we saw a few people deboarding and a menu posted. We were greated by a kitchey sign- "All aboard" and opted for sea faring passage to dinner. Following a brief wait, we were handed a bouey and directed upstairs to the top deck. Our sever was lovely and attentive. The entree I selected, pecan encrusted haddock, was magnificent, and the beverages were good. While the food may be a bit on the high side in cost of fresh seafood fare in Portland, the beverages are not :) In my opinion DiMillos is well worth the cost between the beautiful, if somewhat kitchy atmosphere, and delicious fresh seafood.

I know people say this is a tourist trap, but I really wouldn't want to be trapped anywhere else. I've gone to Demillo's three times and I've never been disappointed. My mother and I went there on a Friday night and there was a 30 minute wait around 6:00. They told us we could eat in the lounge and we found a cute little table for two right by the window overlooking all of the other boats that surround DeMillo's and right next to the fireplace, it was so cozy! They had a free appetizer bar with tons of cheese, vegetables, fried green beans etc. and our waitress was so nice. We ordered drinks, I highly recommend the Seaweed, it was delicious! My mother and I both ordered the lobsterbake which came with soup, salad, lobster, steamers, potato, vegetable, and warm blueberry cobbler for dessert. It was AMAZING! It was $42.00 but for all that food was a great deal. I highly recommend DeMillo's!!

My bartender was extremely knowledgeable when I asked for scotch choices so thank you, Adam for that. The food was fantastic. Pricey maybe, but the feel was worth every penny. I have the clam chowder which was thick and delicious. Several co-workers got the lobster stew and wouldn't shut up about how amazing it was. My steak with my surf and turf was on point and the lobster was juicy buttery and delicious. To add, I really recommend the blueberry cobbler. My wait staff was very friendly and personal and stayed over an hour after closing for our group. Thank you, Will and Nicole for helping us.

After reading numerous reviews that were not stellar, we went with a friends suggestion of DiMillo's. We are so glad we did. The restaurant is huge but well laid out. We were greeted promptly and seated looking at the sea and boats bobbing around us. Our waitress was efficient, friendly and well versed in the menu. She suggested the "Maine Plate" a salad with lobster meat which was perfect - lobster without the carbs and fat. The food arrived very quickly. My husbands lobster roll was loaded with chunky, tender lobster meat. Great piping hot home made French fries were generous enough to share. This is a great place for lunch - we will give it a try for dinner and let you know how it is.

I consider myself a well-traveled guy. I'd been to 44 of the 50 United States, and most of them were in the NorthEast corner of the US (AK, ID, ME, MA, NH, and VT), so I decided to take a road trip. I also have a huge hankering for seafood, but I've lived most of my life in the MidWest. You can't get fresh seafood in the Midwest, so I was excited about going to Maine and getting 'just pulled out of the water' seafood. You can get fresh corn in the MidWest. I remember the thrill of the hunt. I'd drive around Iowa looking for a corn plant, this could take hours, and then waiting for the opportune moment to strike. Corn usually travels in a herd, and your initial gut feeling will be to try and attack one of the sicker and slower corns for an easy kill. You should ignore this impulse and go for the healthiest one you can find. Then, in one swift motion, you leap out of your car, sprint at the corn, grab a husk or two and twist them off. Don't pull, that only leads to frustration and an uprooted corn. You twist it to get it to come off. Then run back to your house and immediately prepare the corn for consumption. There is nothing like fresh corn. I was looking forward to that experience in Maine.

Unable to find any lobsters by driving around, I consulted Yelp to find a few Lobster places. DiMillo's was open, highly rated, and close to where we were, so my family and I went. I came to Maine in the off-tourist season. Something they don't tell you about Maine is that the entire state is closed during the winter until May. I went in April. I was looking forward to going on touristy Lobster Hunts (like the kind shown on the documentary "Deadliest Catch"), sailing, and doing other stuff that the good Maine tourists do. I was heartbroken to find out that Maine was closed.

Despite it being the off-season, we did have a half-hour wait (we had no reservation). The place has the dcor of a tourist trap. I was listening to the folks around, and very few people had that really strong Maine accent that Maine is famous for. I knew that I was among my fellow tourists.

The food...eh. What Dimillo's does very well is lobster. Boil water, drop lobster in, it comes out beautiful. My sister got the lobster, my mother and I got a lobster roll. We'd heard high praises about lobster rolls, but I wasn't a huge fan. It seems like a very expensive sandwich, and lobster should be enjoyed solo, not with bread clustering up your pallet. The lobster was really good. I stole a lobster claw from my sister's plate, thinking that she might not notice if one claw were to go missing. She caught me though. I'm not sure if it was me putting my hands on her food from across the table, the cracking off of the claw, or my rather clumsy distraction of "look over there, a lion!"

If you don't mind paying extra for a semi-fancy atmosphere, the place is okay. The non-lobster foods were passable but not great. The other lobster's I had in Maine were equally good and were a lot less hassle.
