Mediocre. For the price, I expect the food to be a bit inventive and varied. The last time I ate at dimillo's was about 7 years ago. It was much more elegant then- heavy multi-paged menus, wine sauces, multiple options for steak and a fish-of-the-day. This time it was a two-sided laminated menu, like you might get at any touristy seafood place; certainly not upscale. Desserts were right off a chain restaurant menu- brownie Sunday, chocolate cake, ice cream. Mud pie was the only unique offering.
I had the onion soup and pecan crusted haddock which had a maple cream sauce. Both were good, but not subtle. The soup had too many competing favors- garlic toast and what tasted like a not-so-small dollop of balsamic vinegar. The sauce on the entree overpowered the delicate flavor of the haddock. Served with steamed broccoli, fingerling potatoes and cornbread stuffing. The sides were adequate but lacked seasoning. I cook better at home.
Bottom line: you are paying for a pretty view and not haute cuisine. Tip- you can get better food at Becky's Diner down the street for half the price.

What a pleasant evening I experienced here with two lovely coworkers. Excellent drinks, delish " lazy lobster " and service from Bobby, a great waitress with a FUNNY sense of humor that made for an excellent evening ! Highly recommended and enjoyed.

A co-worker arrived in Portland and had never seen our beautiful city or state. Naturally we took him to DiMillos last Tuesday evening. We were greeted by Bobby our waitress. WE LOVED HER!
She was funny and attentive. The best service I have ever received there. The food was great but Bobby made our visit even more special. I'm calling them to let them know. A great experience. :')

I was never a big fan of lobster but now I realize that they just don't know how to cook it where I'm from. Luigi our waiter was very helpful and courteous. We loved the baked stuffed lobster and steamed. Only regret is that I didn't order more. Was soon dang good.

Dimillo's is one of the places in Portland that I tend to avoid. Not because the food is terrible, not because the staff is rude, but because I think of it as a giant tourist destination and don't want to get caught waiting in a crowd.
Honestly, while I still think this might be true in the summer, I recently realized that I had perhaps been too hasty in my Dimilo's judgement, and headed over to Dimillo's for happy hour this past Friday with a party of 5.
I remembered to bring my parking ticket in with me for validation and found a large oval booth available to seat all of us. Dimillo's happy hour runs Mon-Fri from 4-7. All drinks are $1 off and you can order a bunch of inexpensive apps for $6 each.
Our waiter was attentive and helpful, the rest of the staff were also cheery and responsive to customers. We all started with a round of beer and hard cider. We started on the appetizers by ordering the mussels, the fried calamari and the buffalo shrimp. We also requested bread, which came as a large basket of warm bread and soft butter. Score!
The calamari was good enough, but tasted pretty standard, just as you might think it would. The buffalo shrimp were pretty great, about five large shrimp with a fresh blue cheese dip, and the mussels were so fantastic that we ordered them again!
On the second round of food, we also added the roasted vegetable platter (very good) and the meatballs and ricotta (well made and filling).
Overall, we had a great time and all left super stuffed for $20 each with tip! I was also reminded of what a particularly awesome destination Dimillo's can be in the warmer months, when the bar opens it's big outdoor seating section and you can sit out in the fresh air and watch the sun set over the water. Pretty sweet.
Don't forget to get your parking ticket validated on the way out!
