I was told that I had to come to DiMillo's to experience eating on the old converted ship. Most tourists probably are drawn to this restaurant, too, because it is advertised in all the guidebooks and tourist brochures.

When you enter, you feel like you are about to board a ship to embark on a cruise. The decor in the entry way is cute with typical ship/nautical items hanging on the wall.

I ordered the lunch portion fried clams with cole slaw and they were sooo wonderful! They were hot and flavorful with light breading and served with tarter sauce. No wonder why fried clams are so popular out here! I don't think you can get such good ones out in L.A. The cole slaw was a nice-sized portion and it was fresh, light, and good.

If I was staying more days in Portland, I would have liked to try their lobster roll and clam chowder.

You would be hard pressed to find a better view in Portland, the boats, the water, the airplanes overhead. Bring your checkbook this is classic tourist zone. The food is passable, its all about the view.
The service is spotty, seemed like no one was real happy about working there, we visited on a Monday at 5pm, lots of empty tables, not real busy. At $85.00 I don't expect to have to ask for refills on drinks.
We were seated at a table upstairs further point out on the property, we did notice that not one single employee said, "goodbye" Thanks" "see you again"

I expect more at these prices.

Although sitting outside overlooking the water at the restaurant that is actually a boat is right up my alley, the food here left me wanting more.

I had a cup of new england clam chowder, which was very good but the lobster roll that followed was SO bland that I was adding everything I could find to give it some flavor....lemon juice, salt, pepper. That was my very first lobster roll in Maine, and I think it will be my last. I've had better in Manhattan.

I will not return.

Lobster roll and crab roll for lunch was outstanding but pricey. Well prepared, very fresh and nicely presented.

First I'll admit that this post is on behalf of my grandmother, who's not a fan of the computer. But she was raving so much about her fried haddock at DiMillo's, that I thought I must post it. She's in her 80s and from Maine and she keeps saying how it was the best haddock she's ever had. So if you like fish, get to DiMillo's. (My stepfather, who is also from Maine, agreed wholeheartedly with her.)

If they still have the blueberry cobbler, apple crisp, and/or fudge cake, they are all the best you'll ever have.

And I could live off the clam chowder, lobster stew, and bread. If you like haddock, you'll love their haddock chowder.

If you don't like seafood, at lunch I love their cajun chicken club. It's the only club sandwich I've ever actually liked. It's amazing.

The seafood scampi is also the best I've ever had.

P.S. I'm from Portland, so I know a thing or two about seafood too.
