I have used Yelp for years to help me decide which businesses to use around Austin, but have never felt strongly enough about one to actually get on here and write a review of one... until now! Had my Lasik procedure done about less than two weeks ago and my experience with Mann Eye could not have been better.

Let me start by saying I was one of those who thought Lasik would stay on my bucket list forever, beyond my reach because of the cost. I saw the Groupon for Mann Eye a couple of times over the last year, and have heard my favorite radio personality (shout out to Bobby Bones!) talk about it for a couple of years now... but thought I'd never be able to afford it. On a whim, I looked up Mann Eye here on Yelp and I read every review. Many of them mentioned the 24-months of interest free financing... and I decided to go ahead and book my complimentary consultation just to find out if I was even a candidate for Lasik.

From the moment I walked in the door I felt like I was among friends. The front desk staff is the most pleasant I've ever dealt with at any medical office! The consultation went well but I will say it was a bit confusing at first. Although my mind was made up that I wanted to do it, as long as the financing deal worked out, I did feel slightly pressured when they were throwing out dates to schedule my surgery BEFORE they even did any of the tests to see if I was a candidate. I thought to myself... "So are you a candidate as long as you are willing to pay for it?!" We settled on a date the very next week and THEN we went into the other room where they actually do several tests to determine if you meet the criteria for surgery. After those tests I met briefly with Dr. Honour Cessac -- who was probably my favorite of all! She was so unassuming and sweet. I liked her instantly and she made me feel very comfortable with everything.

I had to be out of my contacts for 7 days leading up to surgery, so suffice it to say after 7 days of wearing glasses I could not WAIT for the day to come (during that time I also bought the groupon and was approved for Care Credit, so was able to make the procedure quite affordable). As the afternoon approached I started to feel more nervous than I expected, but of course once I was there my fears were calmed by all the wonderful staff members. My procedure was done by Dr. Lisa McIntire, and I specifically wanted to brag on her in this review because a previous Yelp reviewer did not have a great experience with her. Due to that review, I was a little concerned about being matched with her, however I thought she was very friendly and did an AMAZING job on my eyes. Like everyone else, I only met her a few minutes before the surgery, but that did not bother me at all. She is an extremely capable and skilled surgeon, and took the time to talk to me and answer any questions I had before we got started. She was great!

After surgery my friend drove me home and as instructed, I took a nap to sleep off the Valium. A few hours later I could see clearly enough to watch the Spurs lose the championship (boooooo) from across the living room. On the first day you have to wear clear plastic eye coverings taped to your face (and you have to sleep in them for 5 nights). I didn't enjoy that part... but it's tolerable. By the next morning I could see great and drove myself to my follow up appointment. I now have 20/15 vision!

I did want to mention that while my overall experience was definitely great - there WAS more discomfort involved than I anticipated. On the evening immediately after my surgery it was hard to keep my eyes open for more than a few seconds at a time - they were incredibly dry and I occasionally had the sensation of something being in my eye. The artificial tear drops will be worth GOLD those first few days, especially. My eyes were INCREDIBLY dry in the early mornings. Two weeks later I'm noticing a slight improvement, which I'm sure will continue to get better over time. But plan on experiencing at least some discomfort (note: not pain... I was honestly never in any pain for even a second).

One last thing I wanted to mention about cost...There are two prescription drops that you have to use for 5-6 days, but my insurance covered most of those and they only cost me $10 each. I've also purchased two boxes of artificial tears at about $12 each, and anticipate needing to buy 2 more until the dryness subsides. So my total spent on drops will probably be around $65-$70. My total costs were $100 for Groupon, $70 for drops, and $3995 for procedure for a total of $4165. This might vary for you depending on what specials they have going on at Mann Eye, how many boxes of drops you buy, whether insurance covers any of the prescribed drops, and whether you have a complicated situation such as an astigmatism or some other eye condition. I've just included this as a general guideline/estimation.

I highly recommend Mann Eye if you are considering Lasik!

This an amazing place! Wouldn't go anywhere else for eye care. Couldn't be happier with my Lasik! The whole staff made me feel so special I felt like I was at a spa. I bring my whole family here for their regular eye exams. They are definitely the eye doctors to visit in Katy!
