I went in for cataract surgery on one eye. Here's my experience so far. 1. Mystery billing: I went to Pacific Eye Associates and had a consultation. They said I had to go to a different facility (Sutter Health CPMC) to get a lens measurement, so I did. Two weeks later I got a bill for $440.80. Total bill was $551 and my insurance (Aetna) only covered $110.20. I have great insurance so this was very annoying. Then, I decide to get the upgraded Vivity lens. I signed a document that says "$2,600 collected prior to surgery and another $1,000 due on the day of surgery". When I get to the surgery they charged me "LENS Fee $995/AETNA 10% $220" for a total of $1,250. Where did that extra $250 come from? Who knows... they just tack it on. My surgery was yesterday so I suspect other random bills will show up in the mail over the next few weeks. I can eat these expenses but feel like its unethical to not lay all of this out up front -- especially for seniors living on a fixed income or low income patients. When I flag this to them they blame the insurance company or other providers... or treat me like I'm being difficult, so I'm sharing this so others have their eyes wide open when they get this procedure. 2. Disappointing Vision Outcome Update 1 week after surgery. I can see up close but my distance vision is significantly worse than pre surgery. They are telling me that it's just as good as before, but that's totally crazy. It's nowhere close. My distance was clear. Now, anything beyond 5 feet is blurry. I thought paying $4k for a multi focal lens would prevent this but I was wrong. I wish I didn't get the surgery. And if I did do it again, I'd get the mono focal lenses, saved $4k and have crisper distance vision. So disappointed!

Warning: Pacific Eye Associates practices extremely deceptive marketing / billing tactics - you are lead to believe that if you have questions you can speak with someone from their offices to have your questions answered, this will later be billed as a telemedicine appointment. It is not a telemedicine appointment, it is a sales pitch for services. They are unprofessional, deceptive and should be ashamed of the operation that they are running. Protect yourselves by staying away from them!!!

this business operates under deceptive marketing and I strongly recommend you do not engage with them. It is entirely misleading on the website and knows so by the reaction of their personnel. Shout out to billy w/no last name who was rude and defensive and not customer focused when inquiring as to why they billed my insurance for services not rendered. I strongly advise you look elsewhere for practitioners with integrity and support patient needs vs trying to take advantage of you and your insurance company.

If you wear eye contacts, do not bother coming here. They will just blame whatever problem you're having on the contacts. My time with the doctor was less than 10 minutes and she rushed me through the entire thing. She was very uncaring, dismissive, and rolled her eyes repeatedly. I left there with no solutions to an issue I've been having for over a month. I paid money out of pocket and got a second opinion elsewhere, they told me I have blepharitis and even told me it was apparent that I was losing eyelashes and it was a shame my issues were dismissed as being nothing of concern. Maybe if the doctor had spent more time actually looking at my eyes, she would've reached a different conclusion instead of wrongly assuming it was my eye contacts. Very poor quality of care and very obvious the doctors here are overworked and hate their job. If you are a patient here and feel like you are not receiving proper care, please go for a second opinion. No one can reasonably conclude there is no issue after taking a look at your eyes for less than two minutes. Do not let anyone rush you out of their room. Advocate and speak up for yourself.
