It is not going to win an award for best food.
But it is good.
It's been around for a while.
If you are looking for simple, consistent seafood that's moderately priced...this is it.
A lot of restaurants in the Old Port are fine dining.
This and the Old Port Sea and Grille are family style, casual dining experiences.
Dimillos has a nice open bar.
Great appetizers.
Kid's menu.
AND its on a boat.
Thats pretty exceptional.
Big free parking lot....bring ticket in to get stamped.

    Such a unique experience!

I was in town for the day and was looking for the best lobster in Portland. This was not the first result but it darn well should have been.

I finally found DiMillos and feel in love with the overall idea and concept of it before stepping foot inside. Once inside I felt my feelings had been justified.

We should up early for our reservation and since our table wasn't ready we were sat on the side of the restaurant instead of the main dining room which actually worked out better (I'm not one for white table cloths and white table cloths aren't one for me).

Overall, it was a very pleasant and memorable experience - any place with a decent history will always rank high in my book.

I have however docked a star for the speed of the service (granted, it was a day that cruise ships were in port so it's expected to be busy and crowded, I just wish they had put more people on staff).

Once again, a must for Portland!

Staff was friendly and on point. Food was good, well-portioned, and nicely priced.
Definitely worth the stop if you're in town. And they validate parking.

I have not been to DiMillos since it was in a building on Commercial St. In visiting the Portland area over the years I've not dined there because I, too, felt it was hyped to the "tourist" trade.
After a Whale Watch cruise, we decided to give it go, as long as we could sit on one of the decks. The "ferry" is beautiful, very nicely decorated in the nautical style, elegant but not tacky.
We sat on a deck with an awning overlooking the marina. Service was good, albeit a bit "rushy" at the end of our lunch.
I had the traditional lobster roll. Very good, generous amount of fresh lobster on a toasted roll. Hubby had the Baja Crab melt sandwich, THIS was very good! I will certainly try to replicate it at home! All in all, I can see the detractors low ratings for the touristy feel to the place, but we had a nice lunch in a nice restaurant. I would recommend it, for lunch, to anyone!

    I'm on a boat!

Yes, DiMillo's truly is a floating restaurant; what used to be a boat (well, technically, it's still a boat) is now a dining establishment with excellent quality food and a 360 degree view of the waterfront.

Last year, we rushed through our lunch as we had to catch the Amtrak Downeaster back to Boston. This year, we drove up to Portland and parked in DiMillo's private lot.

My Dad and I split the Wedge salad (definitely enough for 2) and I enjoyed the scallop sandwich, served on a roll reminiscent of a Lobster Roll -- the scallops were fried and it included a spicy jack cheese. For dessert, I had the bread pudding, which I enjoyed last summer.

Overall, it's a nice experience. The meal takes some time (it may have been our friendly server, who was also taking care of a large group celebrating a birthday) and it was incredibly filling. Definitely a must visit when in Portland!
