NOTE: This review is for a contact lens eye exam, not for surgery.

I have mixed feelings about my experience here at Mann. The people were amazing, but everything else was just a tiny bit off.

I made my appointment three months before. I scheduled it over the phone. I then contacted my former optometrist (I had moved, and he was retiring anyway) and asked him to fax my records. The Mann scheduler had given me the phone number.

The next day, I called to see if they had received them. The person at Mann said yes. All is good.

At my appointment, I walked in, signed in (no one was at the counter), and then a couple of minutes later, was called to the front desk. I needed to go to the third floor and sign in there instead. Hmmm... OK.

I go up to 3. The receptionist there says I need to go to 2. The reason? They're "slammed" today and are shuttling doctors to different floors. Weird, but OK.

I go to 2. No signing in. They pull up my info and I am brought back within five minutes. The tech enters in my medical history from my new patient paperwork. The computer system she was using was running on Windows 2000 and seemed to be from the stone ages. It was so slow that she was visibly frustrated and/or embarrassed.

I asked if my records were in there. She said no, but then said "we don't need them anyway." Well, OK.

Then --here's where it gets good -- the phoropter (the thing you look through with "is 1 or 2 better", aka a refractor) was broken. So, we gather everything and go BACK up to 3 so she can do my refraction. We do that, then we grab everything and go back down to 2 for my dilation to kick in.

About 10 minutes goes by and finally I meet Dr. Brunson, who was an awesome doctor. He was super kind and patient. He was fairly thorough and seemed to be in no hurry, which I appreciated (even though they were "slammed.") I recommend him and the rest of the staff. He did a second refraction just to make sure my Rx was correct, and he gave me tons of samples including an entire strip of contacts.

So why am I mixed? Because the staff, from reception to physician, were outstanding. I was very happy with them. But it seemed like the building and organization was a bit dated and unorganized. The broken equipment, the seemingly outdated computer situation -- I expect more from one of the top eye care centers in the city.

I took my mom here, got a groupon.
My one of my main complaint was the Groupon, nothing on it stated that the 2nd paid is the discounted.
No where on the fine print, and they choosing not to respect what was on groupon sucked. Really hoping to get my mom transitional glasses, especially at half off.
Oh well.
I liked the doctor, the service in general, they treated my mom pretty well and even helped her choose glasses.
There was only one person there that made the experience crummy.
She acted very snotty, annoyed like us asking for help to pick the right glasses for my mom was way to much work for her. Look all I wanted was a recommendation not your hand on that throne.
Shoot.
She acted snotty because I had to be a bit frugal and decline the transitional glasses add on.
I really liked how they treated my mom, I like the great care and dedication everyone gave her but that lady.
She really just made me feel dirt poor. Like I under appreciate my mom.
I'll be taking my mom back for the following years to come, maybe another location and will avoid her.

The staff is nice and competent and I was generally happy with my Lasik experience. I chose this team over Berkeley eye because they did the entire surgery in one place (you have to swap beds from flap cutter to zapper at berkely), they could get me in ASAP, and they were within walking distance from my house. I did most of my follow ups with Dr. Brunson, who I would recommend to everyone for eye care. A few months after the surgery when my left eye wasn't perfect (small astigmatism) he gave me room to make my own decision on whether I wanted to have them do a (free within 2 years) touch up. luckily it got a little better on its own by about 14 months so I don't need to go back under the lasers. So why only three stars? Well, the wait times can be atrocious for regular eye exams, Dr. Mann (the younger) comes off as a used car salesman for lasik, and Dr.Chin was a little too pushy to not get a lasik touch up when my left eye wasn't perfect after 6 months, "does it really bother you that much?" is unacceptable leading. The Lasik business lady is nice but feels a little too polished/fake and a little too much of a wheeler-dealer for my tastes. As far as I could tell, the cost for Lasik is always 3800 dollars, after VSP and whatever promotion they have going at the time. Also my goal of not paying for eye insurance in the future was foiled when they told me they expect me to come in for an eye exam every year. 14 months after Lasik my eyes are healthy, so they'll see me again in 2019 or so.

Dr. Wright is the best ophthalmologist! Mann Eye Sugar Land is the place to go if you're interested in Lasik. I had the procedure done yesterday and was in and out in a hour! The procedure itself is ten minutes tops. Highly recommend. Amazing staff!
