The initial part, was fine. The wait was brief and the technician friendly. The wait time to see the doctor was very long. The doctor was friendly and informative. The financial advisor left me confused and did not mention the payment option until I brought it up. The costs of the different surgical options was stunning and I left anxious and fearful, especially after being told I had to have the surgery within 90 days of that day's testing. The decision of which type of surgery to have is daunting mostly due to the cost. My anxiety level is extreme.

I really wanted to like this place more than I did. The reason I chose to come here for an eye exam was due to the many positive reviews here on Google, so I figured I would leave my experience! It was not horrible, but definitely not spectacular. Walking in initially, I felt very comfortable. They are practicing COVID social distancing and sanitizing better than anywhere else Ive seen in Houston (they even sanitized my credit card after paying the copay). Front desk check in was smooth, online appointment setup was sleek and easy, and quick check in.Then the optometric assistant/tech (Ill withhold names) who took me back didnt introduce himself and wasnt very talkative, started asking only necessary first-time visit questions. His attitude was similar to a high schooler working at a movie theater, he didnt seem like he wanted to be there. I felt like I was being a burden to him. I did not feel comfortable and would rate his bed-side manner as below fair (especially being alone in an eye exam room). This may be his personality or how he is in general - but I personally didnt feel very trusted, cared for, or comfortable. It was a tad disheartening to feel that way. I tried to talk with him but hed give me one word answers and seemingly huff, which isnt comforting when hes performing the test thatll determine your eye prescription. He then took pictures of my eyes. After, he walked out of the room and didnt really explain what was happening (I was about to wait for the Doctor to come in)... I then sat waiting in the patient room for 25 minutes (the entire time, feeling not exactly sure if anybody knew I was in there). The Doctor finally came in and seemed knowledgeable and competent. She wasnt incredibly warm and bubbly, but I did not feel uncomfortable. I felt a vibe that she doesnt enjoy her work though, but it could have been an off day. She dove right into eye questions, not asking questions to get to know me. Maybe its a personal preference of mine to get to know my doctor and for them to know me, but I personally felt like they didnt care too much. We talked about my eyes 100% of the time and nothing else. I don't think she said my name once. Maybe thats my extroverted personality wanting to socialize due to COVID, but still, it did not feel genuine. It felt like I was simply just another patient to get through the day.She redid the prescription exam and explained a few things, told me my eyes looked healthy and that Id be good to get LASIK if I wanted. After that, a lady chatted with me in her office about LASIK (I didnt know this location was a LASIK center) and tried to get me to sign up for an appointment, which I politely declined. Then had my PD measured to buy glasses online. When checking out, the prescription they printed was incorrect. If I hadnt been listening or paying attention to what the Doctor told me, I would have come away with an incorrect contact lens prescription. Mistakes happen though, I get that, it was merely another point to the visit.Anyway, this is an incredibly lengthy review. If youve read this far, kudos.Mann Eye Institute is not a bad place, institution, building, team, or organization. They had all the equipment an eye doctor would need, were professional, and provided the services that I needed for a general eye check-up exam. However, I personally did not have as pleasant or positive of an experience as I would have hoped. Other optometric assistants there seemed warm and welcoming, the doctors all looked qualified, they are practicing great things for COVID, and they have great LASIK surgeons (from what it seems). If you have any optical needs, you will be able to find them here.I merely did not have the best experience during my appointment. When my yearly eye exam rolls around next year, I will consider returning and am not sure that I will - luckily I have a year to think about it.

Some of the receptionist in a dire need to learn how to interact with patients. However, the medical staffing and their attention to patients were exceptional.

I have been using this location for eye services for almost 5 years. On my most recent visit, we arrived before our appointment time and complied with all new regulations and requirements. Mandatory hand washing as soon as we stepped inside door, face masks the entire time, and temperature checks. It was a bit disheartening that the doctor was not complying and following guidelines, and moved freely within office without a face mask. We were escorted to a room 20 minutes after our appointment time. Once preliminary information and visit tests were done we waited again. After 40 minutes in the office I stepped out to ask how far behind the doctor was running with appointments. I heard the doctor in the next room with another patient that arrived after us. I was treated like I had asked an absurd question, and told she would be there shortly. I explained we had another appointment to make and needed to leave within 15 minutes, I did not think a routine eye appointment, with no problems or complications, that was scheduled first thing in the morning which we had arrived in time for would take this long.It was rationalized that the staff did not know I had other appointments today. Upon completion of our appointment and checking out, 2 other patients who had arrived after us were already checking out and leaving as well. Please respect your customers time also, my latest experience has me wondering if it is time to move our eye care to another facility.
