The doctors here seem to be high caliber, but my ongoing gripe is that they want to dilate my eyes every time I'm there for an exam. I'm blonde with blue eyes that are VERY sensitive to light -- I wear sunglasses on cloudy days -- and in the past, eye doctors have provided me with drops that reverse the dilation drops. This allows me to both read and go outside after an eye exam without waiting for two hours for my pupils to normalize. But NEEC does not offer these reverse-dilation drops. I have asked for them every time I've been examined there, and the doctors just shrug and say no, they don't have them. WELL THEN GET THEM!!! I really struggle to see how any medical practice can refuse to provide their patients with something to make the examination more comfortable, and instead force them to get home or back to the office while in pain from the light and unable to see clearly. I refuse to allow them to dilate my eyes without these drops, and they refuse to supply these drops, so I will be finding another eye doctor.

While this place was not very easy to find, it was well worth it once I did.

I had appointments for myself and my two children, which I know is never easy, but the doctor and the staff made us feel very welcome and gave me some things to entertain my kids.

Dr Lamoreau took the boys first, and I will be the first to admit, they don't sit still very well. But she was patient with them, got them through their exams, didn't rush them, and did a really nice job.

Then it was my turn. I've been wearing glasses and contacts my entire life, which means I've have many, many eye exams. This was the best one I've gotten. Period.

She was quick, but efficient and very thorough. She seems to care very much while she is going through the exam. Usually I feel like the doctor is just going through their "better 1, or better 2" and not really listening or doing much with it. I didn't feel this way during this exam. And my other eye doctors never had two kids playing in the room at the time.

At the beginning, she asked me what kind of contacts I wear and I told her. At the end, she asked why I wear them and I told her that's what my last eye doctor recommended. She was like, "did they talk about your astigmatism?" which they hadn't. Not one of my other eye doctors mentioned that there are better contacts for astigmatism, and now that I wear them, I love them.

At the end of all three exams, I noticed we finished right on time, Dr Lamoreau gave us all of our information on what was going on with us, recommended our course of action, and got us back to the front desk to set up our next appointments, which I was very happy (and the boys were happy) to do. She will be our eye doctor as long as she is practicing.

Today I had a routine eye exam and contact lens check at New England Eye Center in Brighton. Before the visit the receptionist went over my insurance with me on the phone to make sure the visit would be covered and to see if there was a copay. Since I don't understand everything about my coverage I was happy to review my insurance over the phone before the visit. This way there are no surprises. It was snowing and I was late for my appointment but when I arrived they said no problem and it was a few minutes before Dr. Lamoreau came out to the waiting room to greet me. She was friendly and nice and she checked my vision with the reading chart in a professional and detailed manner. I was okay with my lenses but said my eyes felt dry sometimes. She did mention the Acuvue Oasis lenses and said they might be more comfortable but she explained that this was because they had a coating that was more wettable and that reduced the need for rewetting drops. I am going to try them and report back to her. I am going to buy my own contacts online. Other than that I did have the dilated eye exam because the doctor said that was part of a complete eye health check and would allow her to examine the full back of my eyes. Afterward she said my vision would be back to normal within a few hours. I checked out at the reception desk with a very nice receptionist named Katie who gave me some temporary sunglasses in case the daylight was too bright since my eyes had been dilated. I am going to return in a few weeks to have a lens recheck and make sure the new ones are performing properly. It only took a half hour and I was happy with the visit.

Doctor was dismissive, rude, did not answer questions, tried to sell me things I don't need to get the fitting $$$ from insurance.

First of all, I called to schedule an appointment for an annual contact lens prescription renewal. I decided to look for a place in my area in Allston/Brighton instead of going all the way to my regular eye doctor in Medford. BOY do I wish I had taken the time to do that! I would have avoided a new patient fee and been able to get more contacts with my insurance money.

When I called to make the appointment the receptionist was friendly and helpful with scheduling, but the call took longer than it needed to. A few days later the same receptionist called me and left me a long message about how my insurance will cover this appointment, but not if I have future medical eye problems. OK, that's fine, I think that's something they could have just told me the day of the appointment (and she did), but not a big deal at all and the woman was very nice.

When I arrived and checked in, the insurance info (that I was covered for today but not future appointments) was gone over at length again and loudly, I felt bad for the other people in the waiting room, but again no big deal.

My appointment was for 8:15, and I had arrived a little before 8:00am even though I was not told to arrive early, I know that as a new patient there is usually paperwork and it is a courtesy to get there early in general. After checking in I waited until about 8:25 to be seen by Dr. Lamoreau.

Dr. Lamoreau came to get me from the waiting room and everything started off fine with the eye exam. However, a few minutes into the exam one of the receptionists came into the room and gave her a stack of papers that the doctor had asked her to photocopy at about 8:20 while I was in the waiting room, and they had a short conversation about them. The doctor thanked her, and then told me that she has been trying to get a mortgage for a house but the bank lost her student loans form etc. I was annoyed that I had to wait longer because she is working on her personal financial stuff (and using other staff people's time) in front of customers while they wait.

I stated that I was fine with my brand of contacts, and she said that I should switch to Acuvue Oasis. I asked why, she said because they are better and people say they are more comfortable (I had not conveyed any issue with my current brand). Nothing about why they are better, just that apparently "people like them more". I asked about the difference in price, and she said that the Oasis were more expensive. I said that since I am fine with my brand I'll stick with them. She said Oh OK that's fine, you'll save money on the lenses and the fitting cost too.

During the exam I was trying to tell her that one of the lenses was smudged and that's why I couldn't read the small letters on one eye, and she didn't seem to care or address the issue, which made me reconsider how accurate the eye exam I received actually was. Even though I do not believe my eyes have changed, it is still nice to have a medical professional actually... examine you accurately.

The part of the visit that left me feeling the worst---not listened to, invalidated, not respected, and dismissed---was when she said "I'd like to put drops in your eyes to dilate your pupils". This had not been mentioned to me and I have not had it done as far as I can remember. I said I have to go to work in a few hours so I can't do that today (it had not been mentioned and I did not expect it). She said that I can come back to get it done. I said it was not part of my normal contacts exam, she said "Yes it is a part of a routine eye exam. I like to do it for everybody". Later I tried to ask again, why is it important? She explained what dilating means, which I knew, and that I should have gotten it done before. She was extremely dismissive and rude, and talked down to me without actually explaining anything. I was basically looking for "Well, we look in your eyes for signs of diseases, and while you are probably fine it's always good to get checked regularly to prevent more serious problems from developing." I got N.O.T.H.I.N.G. close to a reasonable explanation.

Basically I feel like Dr. Lamoreau was trying to make more money from billing insurance for extras--more expensive lens fitting costs, supplies, and this part of the exam, which was never satisfactorily explained to me. She also is obviously preoccupied, which is OK, I like talking to my other eye doctor about her vacations and family life, but TAKE THE TIME to respect your patients!!! Answer my simple questions, and don't try to overcharge me! Let me know what to expect for an appointment before I arrive! Don't leave me waiting!

I will definitely NOT be going back to this doctor. I am more inclined to pay out of pocket for the dilation exam at my regular doctor.

    These guys are seriously unprofessional.

My left eye is 20/45 and my right eye is 20/25. I went to get tested for an enhancement and 2 of the 3 appointments to get evaluated they couldn't complete the tests. I have to take time off work to get those evaluations. The first time I was sent into the wrong waiting room, the second time the machines were down, and I had to miss a day of work because they didn't call me to reschedule.

I scheduled an enhancement twice, and the first time was rescheduled due to re-verify the changes. The 2nd enhancement might have to be rescheduled because the optometrist and the surgeon didn't communicate and the optometrists blamed the surgeon for "taking vacation".

I was supposed to get a test lens to verify the laser work.

This is expensive lasik, at $4500 for both eyes. They waste your time, and screw up.
