Tl;dr -- during an evaluation, the optometrist on duty falsely disqualified me for LASIK/PRK due to a condition I did not have, possibly because he did not want me as a patient. I got LASIK elsewhere a few weeks later. Don't go cheap for poorer service and sloppy medical conclusions.

I'll preface that I was not in a great mood that day (hence why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1), it was difficult to find parking in Union Square and I was running late and needed to get to a meeting after. I got annoyed (I should have been nicer) when the receptionist stopped answering my questions (e.g., do I have to write my employer name on this form?). I knew something was wrong when the receptionist walked into the optometrist's room and closed the door. A few minutes later, the optometrist brought me in and did a few cursory checks, put eye drops in my eye, and almost immediately diagnosed me with dry eye (first I heard of this, he didn't give me an actual dry eye test) and that I wasn't qualifed for LASIK or PRK. When I asked for more information, he told me the "outcome would not be good" for me and that my options were limited. Since dry eye is a symptom of other potential health issues, I was concerned about my general health after the evaluation, but I also felt he was trying to push me out without being evidence based. Thankfully, I trusted my gut and got a second opinion. Turns out, I had excellent eye health (no dry eye at all) and was a candidate for LASIK and PRK according to one of the highest regarded (and conservative) opthalmologists in the Bay Area. I got LASIK a few weeks later from that same opthalmologist. So far, I am happy with the results!

My guess is that Ellis doesn't want to meet the needs of an admittedly restless patient who demanded superior service. The real question is why? I'll leave that to past and future patients who had surgery with Ellis.

Perhaps this shop is optimizing for volume and differentiating on price, do better Ellis, your future patients deserve it!

My wife had her epi-lasik performed at the Roseville office. What a disorganized mess. The procedure was done. We went to several follow up appointments at that Walnut Creek office. Somehow they missed that her left eye was dry and not healing correctly. On top of the $3400 they charged for the surgery they want to charge us $1500 for an aggressive eye flush and drops.Part of the whole sales pitch is you pay nothing for a year after for follow up care. This seems like follow up care. Avoid this place

They were very nice the first time I went in and then after that day, they just seemed rude and short. I got the surgery, it went ok, they didn't seem very nice that day and the surgery could have gone smoother but it all worked out ok, but then they told me I need to have a follow-up appointment the next week, and I told them that was too late of notice, I probably couldn't make that work with work, I tried to make it work and I couldn't and they got mad at me about that. Kind of disappointing how rude they were to me once I signed the contract to pay for the surgery. They did mention when I signed it that I would also need a day the week after off work for the post surgery check up. That ended up slipping my mind and they never mentioned that necessary appointment again, out of all the appointment confirmations and talking with them on the phone, they just kept saying I would need the day off for the surgery, and never mentioned the week after. Just not a great experience with this place, maybe other locations are better. I should haveghave with a place that costed more and is nicer and also won't charge if I ever need it done again to recorrect the vision. It's okay, I was trying to find a good place that didn't cost too much, and I just ended up with people that weren't super nice after I signed. All is well and I can see good and there is a couple of good people at this location, but just wish they weren't so mean after you sign.
