This is going to get longer than I'd like, but I want to include the details in with this review. I'm ultimately disappointed with Loden Vision Centers and Dr. Loden. The lack of care the business has for if a patient keeps their sight in the face of extenuating circumstances is disturbing.

I first want to say the care I received from Dr. Doherty was wonderful. I found him to be an exceptional doctor. The same goes for Dr. Barberic at the Smyrna location.

My trouble with Loden began after I had cataract surgery, and at the same time encountered some serious other medical issues that created a financial hardship. I was extremely sick for most of December and all of January. My bill with Loden went past due. By the time I was recovered enough to be able to contact the office to make payment arrangements, one of the bills had gone to collections (the day before I called). I explained my entire situation and attempted to make payment arrangements, and never once displayed any unwillingness to pay the full balance owed, but made it clear that I had to pay a small amount each month.

This was met with reluctance by the office staff and outright nastiness by the people at the collection agency Loden uses. They can blame that on the collection agency, but Loden might want to rethink their choice on Fox Collections. As I said, I NEVER displayed an unwillingness to pay. However, when I expressed that I could only pay $15 per month on the balance, I was told that my payments wouldn't be recorded since they were less than $25. I was also told an immediate payment couldn't be taken to show the doctor I was paying right away. I was then threatened with damage to my credit score EVEN THOUGH I was setting up a payment arrangement that I was promising to deliver on. I finally got snappish and asked if they would prefer that I agree to payments I couldn't afford or make an arrangement for payments I could guarantee to follow through on. The call still ended with me being told my payments wouldn't be recorded.

This was apparently accurate, because I ended up at an appointment for a YAG laser consultation where I waited for an hour while the receptionist consulted repeatedly with the financial office trying to find out if I had indeed sent the payments for my payment arrangement. I was upset about that to begin with because when the appointment was confirmed I asked to make sure there wouldn't be a problem being seen since I have to drive nearly an hour to get to this office to see Dr. Doherty; that drive is difficult with my current health issues. I was told I'd get a call ahead of time if there was any issue with being seen....then I get there, and there's an issue.

I should add that even though this was an appointment to consult for the YAG laser capsulotomy, I knew before this appointment even happened that I was going to need the procedure. I'd started having an issue with a "second cataract" forming in my right eye when I saw Dr. Doherty a few months ago. This was a check to see the progression and to determine when the procedure should be done.

When the office finally decides I can be seen, I talk to the financial office over the phone while still waiting for my appointment, and get told that I can be seen for this particular appointment, but if I need the YAG, I'll have to wait until my current balance is paid in full to have it done. This apparently was decided by Dr. Loden himself. I questioned it, pointing out that it would take me a long time to pay down the balance, and what was I supposed to do in the meantime, go blind?

Apparently that IS what I'm supposed to do, which absolutely floors me. On the one hand, I understand that this is a business. What I don't understand is how a business that is supposed to be helping people KEEP their vision can show this much apathy. I can't be the first patient who has run into medical hardship while under their care and needed to do payments. I also don't understand how they think it will help fulfill the payment arrangement if my health situation gets worse. Not being able to see will hinder being able to pay bills. I'm not saying that to be dramatic. That's logic. Needless to say, I was in tears over this and have been deeply distressed since that conversation.

This is why I wouldn't recommend Loden Vision Center. They can argue that my problems aren't theirs, but medical providers - all medical providers - should treat the whole patient. Sometimes patients run into problems outside of their control. I understand Loden's POLICY might be to have patients paid in full before completing future work, that's the policy of most other doctor's offices too. I made payment arrangements with a number of other medical providers, and exactly ZERO of them told me they wouldn't treat me while I was working to pay down a balance. I was especially not told this by providers who treat something essential to daily function. Kind of like how being able to see is.

They are very professional, all the people that work there. Dr. James Loden, is an exceptional surgeon. I had cataract surgery on both eyes. Everything went smooth as silk! If I ever need anything to do with my eyes I will go back to Loden Vision!

I ordered my glasses from goodlettsville location, and they made a mistake so I have to pick cheaper frame and lenses for 2nd time. But instead of refund my difference of cost between first pair and second pair, keep add this and that to my bill to make even exchange, even I firmly said that I dont want all that stuff add to my lenses several time. So now Im to get 3rd lenses put on my glasses, and they still jacked up the cost so I wont get refund.. I will never go back there

Beautiful new building on Two Mile Parkway in Goodlettsville, TN. I was greeted by the receptionist, who confirmed my appointment on her laptop and walked me to sign in at the appropriate location. New prescription eye wear center is inside their waiting area, as well as a nice coffee bar. Doctors and staff are outstanding. It is very noticeable that the staff are well-trained in their jobs, but also in great "customer service". If you are nervous when you get there, you will be put at ease in no time at all. Surgery center was immaculate and a caring staff takes good care of each patient. Dr. Loden's surgery was quick and pleasant. My follow-up with Dr. Evans went very well and I am very pleased with my experience at Loden Vision Center and my results.
