The idea of eating out on a docked ship in Portland was kitschy and so my husband and I went for it. I was afraid we didn't look fancy enough, but it worked out okay because we saw families some dressed up and some down. Definitely felt like it was a tourist spot, especially when you walk past the gift shop, to get to the main entrance. Luckily we didn't really have to wait to long and we were seated on the second floor. Our waitress was really nice. My husband was excited that he could have the Lazy Lobster option where all the work is taken out and he can just dunk the sucker in some butter. I think I was a little lobstered out at that point so I had some other seafood. The food was just okay, but definitely more on the pricey end of our meals. Setting was not bad, definitely a touristy thing to try. Maybe trying lunch instead of dinner would have been the way to go.

A touch salty and overpriced but it's the view you pay for. Great for groups and fun to be on a boat. And yes it moves a bit so be ready.

Standard fare but I don't think you're paying for the food, you're paying for the view! I enjoyed my lobster roll - it was simply prepared and lobster was super fresh. Service was not as good as I'd expected given the location and turnover of customers. Not a foodie spot but good for the experience. And they had my favorite vinho verde on the wine list...

Touristy? Yes, but worth a visit!
Sitting on a docked boat in the harbor, the views are the best in town! The menu meets the taste of both seafood and land lovers and it also has a sizable selection of gluten free options. Seafood was fresh, service was friendly and prompt. I would definitely stop by and visit them again.

In the atmosphere category, DiMillo's has it going on. You're on a boat, literally, yet you are in the middle of the Old Port District of Portland.

I'd like to say that we picked DiMillo's because of the incredibly high reviews of yelpers, but we didn't. I'd also like to say we picked here because our hotel concierge spoke very highly, but he didn't. He said OK things, though, not bad.

To be honest, we picked here because they had parking. Honestly, I don't know how an area like the Old Port District can have so many fabulous restaurants, unique shops, interesting places to explore, yet virtually no public parking. Geez.

We were told our wait would be 20-25 minutes, but it was seriously less than 5. We sat indoors on the main level, yet we could see out all the windows around us. It was raining, so it's not like we were missing much.

We had enjoyed a long day of driving and then walking around the Portland Head Light, so were hot and just ordered iced tea to drink ($2.50 each, don't you hate that?). We started with salads that we added to our entrees ($5 caesar and $6 market) after I tried to a cup of lobster stew ($9). The salads were quite good, the stew was good - had lots of lobster and seafood - but it was surprisingly thin. That's probably one of the most surprising things to this Southern girl on this New England trip.. that often clam chowder, seafood chowder, or lobster chowder are all broth-y and not creamy. Who knew?

For dinner I had the Lazy Lobster ($27) which was good, but honestly wasn't the best lobster I enjoyed this trip. Hubby had the fried shrimp ($21) which he said was also good.. not the best ever, they were very small shrimp that really should've been called popcorn. We ordered a to go cheesecake after seeing another table's order of the Chef's special blueberry swirl ($6) which was exceptionally good.

All in all it was a good dinner, not the best we ever had, but for the overall experience I' rate them A-OK just as the yelp rating implies.

Our service was OK, not the most attentive ever, but not the worst either.

And in case you're interested, our hotel concierge explained if you had visited DiMillo's in 2013 or earlier, the food was really not up to par. They had a new chef and new cooks in the kitchen were things are better than a year or so ago... so if you visited then or read an earlier review, know that things have changed.

And free parking for three hours... sold.
