Dr. Ellis performed Radial Keratotomy on me in 1995. Prior to that I had been told by another surgeon that I was not a candidate for RK due to my astigmatism, but Dr. Ellis told me that I would be happy with the results. Well, he was able to correct the vision in my left eye, but he perforated my right eyeball during the surgery. My vision in that eye is now worthless. Not only did he perforate my eyeball, but he decided not to tell me about the mistake and sent me home. My husband ended up driving me back to Dr.Ellis' office because the pain was so severe that I was vomiting. It felt like my eye was being stabbed with an ice pick. It wasn't until then that he admitted what had happened during surgery. He then put some sort of a bandage on my eyeball to help with the pain and healing. If he had done that to begin with it could have helped with some of the agony I was gong through. The recovery was longer and more difficult than I was led to believe. As for the results, I have one good eye and one very very bad one. My Optometrist calls it a "butcher job". I regret ever meeting Dr. Ellis.

As his TV commercial says "If you have be turned away from other Lasik places, come and consult with me..." or something like that. Not everyone is a candidate for lasik AND obviously if other places reject you as a candidate for lasik, you should reconsider. Dr. Ellis is smart, no doubt but he doesn't have ethic.

I agree with Melissa B. about Dr. Ellis' arrogance and that he only cares about your $$$$.

I had my surgery back in 1994. I had radial keratotomy on both eyes because lasik wasn't available at that time (or so we were told by Dr. Ellis). I was told by another eye surgeon years later that if Ellis would have waited, I would've had the choice to get lasik. I have to wear glasses when I drive at night, and I can never get lasik surgery because of the RK surgery.

After my mother's insurance paid for both surgeries, Dr. Ellis' manager (and wife) kept trying to collect more money from us (Balance Billing). His wife was rude and yelled at my mom to pay up. My mother basically told her to contact her insurance and stop hounding us for money.

Having any kind of surgery is stressful enough without having to think about insurance. Please opt for eye surgery elsewhere.

Dr. Ellis was the third doctor I visited while shopping for a Lasik surgeon. I met him in the waiting area because he came up to me and greeted me. He totally thought I was someone else and was pretty nice to me. Even though he made a mistake, I give him an A for effort. The appointment started out pretty well with several tests by Dr. Chan. He was incredibly nice and professional. I was actually considering going with this place and then everything went downhills...

After Dr. Chan concluded that I was a good candidate for Lasik, they sent out this salesperson. I knew it wasn't going to be good when she pointed me down the hall and told me to take a seat in the room on the left. THERE WAS NO ROOM ON THE LEFT! We ultimately ended up in this room on the RIGHT. The second I sat down, I knew I was going to get her sales pitch. Fine, I thought, I would entertain her even though I was already sold on Lasik; I was just shopping for a doctor. She had a heavy Spanish accent but she decided to chew gum during our entire consultation, which made her incredibly unprofessional and even harder to understand. She went on to do her sales presentation and gave me the prices. What shocked me was when she busted out with a calculator and did this lame I'm-going-to-calculate-a-special-discount-just-for-you routine. It was something that I dealt with at flea markets and at foreign countries where the sales people and I did not speak the same language, but I never expected this from a doctor's office. She must have realized she was incomprehensible because she had a damn piece of gum in her mouth the entire time!

I didn't want to be rude so I sat through the rest of the sales pitch. What finally made me decide this office was not for me was when she tried to describe the wavefront laser-guided map procedure and she called the result "high definition!" Granted I only did minimal research beforehand, I seriously doubt "high definition" was a medical term and I certainly did not want to deal with a salesperson who might just as well have sold me a TV.
