TLDR: Borderline predatory sales tactics, non-transparent pricing.I'm sure the medicine practices at Ellis Eye Center are fine, clearly they've conducted many procedures and are regulated by the FDA; however in the numerous conversations I've had with the sales team make me feel like I'm talking to a salesperson at a used car dealership. I would consider the promotions somewhat predatory and the tactics shady. They run several promotions $1000 sale off, $1500 gift card, etc.. However there are no details on how much the procedure actually costs and its impossible to get a bottom line price. It doesn't matter what the promotion is, the real question is out the door - what's the TRUE price. The result of all my conversations is they want you to come in to do their FREE consultation. Its a short evaluation followed by their sales process. By appealing to your emotions they think they can sell you on the procedure. What they don't tell you is that after your first FREE consultation, the 2nd consultation costs $175 which will go to the procedure if you elect to have it. Its a catch 22 and the price is only valid for 90 days. So basically if you refuse the first price and you go back, no matter what price they give you the 2nd time, you feel obligated to take it because you've already committed with your $175 deposit. This is in addition to having spent a considerable amount of time. I'm not sure why they won't give you a straight answer regarding pricing. There is always some "excuse" why they can't quote you a price and that you must come in for a consultation. It is unclear why they can't tell you the price first and then come by to verify that you qualify for the procedure. The price is located behind a time paywall featuring a sales pitch.I've successfully called other doctors were able to eventually get a price, but not here. Here's a sample conversation I had.- Can you tell me how much this will cost?E - Procedures can range in price between 3k and 6k depending on your prescription- Ok, great, here's my current prescription XXXX, how much it will cost after the promotion?E - Sorry, we can't do that, I'm not a doctor, I can't tell you about your prescription.- I've talked to other places and they've been able to give me an idea of how much it will cost based on my prescription.E - We've done XXX number of surgeries, why would you go to a place that would give you a price on the phone without a consultation. (basically implying that the other guys are unprofessional/unqualified)Etc...Stanford is $6k, IQ laser is $5k for lasik, $6k for smile, Ellis is $X???

My mother went to Ellis Eye Center earlier this year after no longer being able to stand the symptoms from the pterygium growth on her eye. Terrible mistake. The day of the procedure she was treated very unprofessionally by Mr. Ellis himself, as he became aggressive with her and started screaming at her because she flinched when he began to cut into her eye. Still, she attended her post-op appointments and was told that she had "no more growth!" And that she was healing "so well!" but she still felt the same symptoms and there was visible growth. We were confused , so we decided to get a second opinion elsewhere and were told that he only scratched the surface of her eye. Not only did Dr. Ellis treat my mother the way he did, but he took her money and didn't remove a single thing from her eye. She had to get a second surgery elsewhere to remove the growth. As desperate as you may be, do not give this man your money. He's a rude and unprofessional man who seemingly turns his staff on his patients when there's any disagreement.I've read reviews similar to this, sadly it was months after this experience. I also see that Dr. Ellis comments and accuses these patients of giving false reviews. But I never see him replying to a good review accusing them of lying.

The counselor James Barrueto was a dick. They're company and Groupon have a coupon going on and he didn't want to honor nor did he want to help with the financial situation I was in. His first option to solve the issue was to cancel the appointment for surgery nor want to the help figure out the Groupon and financial situation. I was at work and couldn't answer the phone so I had my significant other call for me and he told my girlfriend my diagnosis and everything along with it completely violating HIPAA. I hope his manager and higher authorities see this because what he did giving my diagnosis out without my consent will cost him his job
