    Review of Eye Institute of West FloridaI want in on Feb 14 because I had a loss of vision in the lower part of my left eye. Dr Johnson saw me for an exam, and said I will escort you downstair since you have a detached retina, and this is an emergency. He was great. Already an hour in the office I then waited for 3 hours to be seen by the specialist in a dingy and out of date waiting area. After I saw a doctor, they brought me to the business office to pay for the emergency procedure.Dr Hairston was the retina specialist in the largo office that day so became my doctor. I was offer two option get surgery the next day and a long recovery or try a pneumatic retinopexy today and cryotherapy on Friday if things go well. I choose outpatient procedures. I had to sleep upright until I went back on Friday and it was hard.Friday I had to go to the St. Petes office, even more dingy than largo office, and I was there 3 hours. They are overly busy, and emergencies happen. I had the same team of techs which was nice. They usually dilate you when you come in but didn't. Once I got in the first office, they said why isn't she dilate and proceeded to but drops in my eye. A tech came in after a few minutes and said her eyes not ready and wanted to put more in. I said why put more in just wait a few more minutes. It won't hurt you and she put them in.Dr. Hairston was friendly but brief. I felt I need more patient education and clearer answers to my questions about the procedure and after treatment expectations. I came in each time with a lot of questions and went to other practices web sites to ease my concerns. I understand if you don't want to print out pages that answer my concerns, but at least have it on your web site. You site quickly explains each procedure but not what to expect afterwards. Its my vision so I need more. I believe an important part of good medical care is patient education.Tuesday I had my after procedure visit and was doing well. The next morning I woke up with blurry or spider vision. They told me to come back in. It was great they accommodated me. They ran tests that showed my retina was still attached. I asked the doctor," Is it usual when the gas bubble is disintegrating to have unclear vision?" The doctor replied, "It is for you." I said, "Are you being vague doctor?" He shrugged and left.My gas bubble is not visible anymore, but I still have foggy vision. Hope it goes away soon.

    Experienced rude treatment (felt personal). He couldn't help me with my other eye issues outside of glaucoma.

    Doctor Ho was very knowledgeable however Kelly at the front desk is very impatient & her tone is very snappy over the phone. Perhaps she should take that attitude to the McDonalds drive through window where that behavior is expected or the local DMV where we all know how people are treated/spoken to over there. Obviously the healthcare industry is not suitable for this individual.

    Staff was good. Dr was excellent. But wait time was horrible. Over 1.20 hrs. Recommend staff for the Dr be pro active and come out to acknowledge the long wait. There were several patients saying they will not come back.
