Haven't been back since my last appt in August which was my 3 month follow up. The one doctor I liked..(I think her name was Dr.Wu or Wong?)well she left!!!! I was so mad because I loved her. I got Lasek and had a really bad week after the surgery, wasn't able to reach 20/20 vision but I am damn close to it and that's all I need. Originally I was told that I could have the procedure repeated if I wanted to get 20/20 but NO THANKS! My vision is great and I don't think I need to do it agan. Just thought I would update my vision status. My eyes do get dry at night and when I first wake up but the Genteal eye drops help alot. Overrall, I'm glad I got the procedure done b/c I'm done with contacts and glasses for a very long time!!! The place is ok, staff are ok, the procedure cost is good compared to other places like MEEI. I would still recommend this place b/c I got great results.

When I was deciding to go to Boston Eye Group I looked up the reviews and mostly they were not that great -in regards to the staff (the actual surgery results had good reviews). My experience was very good. I met with much of the staff and they were all helpful, friendly and professional. I found Dr. Melki to be friendly enough and very nice during the surgery (telling me what to do and that I was doing a good job -exactly what I needed to hear). I got LASEK (I wasn't quite the right candidate for LASIK). It took me a good 2 weeks to recover, though I think I was driving after a week (that's pretty average for that type of surgery). I have 20/20, I don't have a problem seeing at night or seeing halos. My eyes do get dry or itchy easily but I think that's still improving (I just had the surgery Aug '10). I just love not needing to use glasses or contacts.

It has been about two years since my LASIK at Boston Eye Group and I have 20/20 or better vision in both eyes and no halos so very good results. Defiinitely use Qualsight if you are looking into this as I read it here and it saved me about 50% off the orginal quote which made Boston Eye Group comparable with TLC and other places with not as many credentials as Boston Eye Group. The Good - 20/20 or better vision in both eyes with no halos. I was nearsighted only before in the -6 area. Procedure was quick and could see 20/20 almost immediately. So happy I did this as no more contacts and pain associated with wearing them for long periods of time. Eyes are a bit drier than before but not too bad. The staff and doctors kept me informed the whole way through the process and explained all the options and side effects. Dr. Melki just about guranteed I would have 20/20 vision and he did not lie. The not so good - I was only provided with one drop of anesthesia per eye about 1 minute prior to the procedure. I unfortanately felt a lot of pain during the flap cutting and the "pressure" they warn you about is them pushing some sort of suctioning device into your eye to keep your eyelids open. It felt like someone was hitting me in the eye with a hammer and I had a blod shot circle on both eyes for nearly two months after the procedure from this step. No one else mentions this so don't know what went wrong for me. I also felt the laser cut the flap in both eyes which was a medium amount of pain but caught me off guard as I expected to feel nothing. I was very nervous after this going into the laser portion and deathly afraid I would move my eyes but this part was not painful and perhaps the single pain drops kicked in by then however I had a hard time keeping my first eye open while they worked on the second due to the bruise they created with the suctioning device. Dr. Melki was quite frustrated with me for closing this eye and as people mention, didn't have the best bed side manner as I tried to explain that it was hurting and he ignored me. After the surgery I had halos for a few weeks at night and sensitivity to light for over a year but that has cleared now. My eyes are a bit drier than before so I need to use drops when there are a lot of alergens in the air which I never had problems with before. I had only one follow up a few days later with Dr. Melki and then he sent me to my regular eye doctor. I didn't have any issues but for the price, I expected all follow up to be with him or one of his doctors since they do LASIK unlike my eye doctor. This may be something you just need to demand. Summary: Glad I did the procedure and seeing well and would recommend Boston Laser however make sure you demand more than one drop of anethesia per eye and have them wait at least five minutes before starting the procedure so you don't feel anything. A friend did the procedure at TLC and said they put 4 or 5 drops per eye and he felt nothing, not even something during the "pressure" part other than pressure. Learn from me and keep that first eye open duringn the second (they never told me this beforehand) or else you will incur the wrath of Dr. Melki :)

I had my Lasik Surgery with Dr. Melki approximately a month ago. For Starters, I now have 20/15 vision after having a -8.00 diopters. The procedure was essentially a much longer version of a glaucoma test. There was some general irritation and dryness for a couple days, but nothing more than an inconvenience. I would say the worst part was having to wear silly clear plastic eye patches for the first day. I will say that I agree with other reviewers that the bedside manner is not great at any point in the process. When you go in for a consultation, you are literally dragged from room to room with several waits in the waiting room inbetween. They give out free consultations, which means they probably only convert a small portion of those free consultations into actual surgeries. It can be frustrating, but rest assured that the reason they're so matter of fact about it is because they perform the procedure literally dozens of times a week. At the end of the day, as other people have mentioned, if you have concerns, voice them, they will give you honest answers. If you want someone to hold your hand throughout the process, this may not be the place for you. If you want a consumate staff of professionals who've seen everything get the job done, this is the place to go. It was also much cheaper than the other places I've found in the area.

My Lasik experience actually began @ TLC where I went through the pre exam process last year. I was convinced I was going to go there for 2 reasons, they participate with my VSP insurance program and I would get to use my primary optician who is local to where I live. Then I discovered YELP. I thought it was worth comparing another group and Dr. Melki had some of the highest reviews. I did go through Qualsight to arrange the appt. I still don't understand the relationship because they take $600 just for setting up/referring you to Dr. Melki. Still don't understand why Boston Eye Group won't give a better rate if you go direct than going through a 3rd party. So I paid 3,600 and Boston Eye Group got 3,050. I did not take the lifetime guarantee. Knowing what I know now, I probably would but who has a crystal ball.After a little research on the financial situation at TLC, I got a little skeptical. My Dr. convinced me they were great and I would not have any issues. He gave me a $500 gift card which would bring the lifetime program in line with Boston Eye Group. Unfortunately TLC would not take the gift card as well as my VSP discount. Why would I go there and pay $500 more for a company that may not be around to guarantee anything. So I selected Boston Eye Group.The pre opt exam was long. You get shuttled from room to room like a rat in a maze. It was rare if anyone of the techs ever introduced themselves. It was not a personal experience at all but I figured they don't have time to chat and they want to move you along quickly because it is a very thorough and long exam. I was most impressed that Dr. Melki actually personally met with me (which you don't meet the doctor at TLC). He took me through the pros and cons of mono vision and promised that if I was not happy they would/could adjust it at anytime. He is very calming and reassuring.The day of the surgery, well I did not sleep much the night before. The wait is long and boring, it truly is 3 hours of doing not much other than sitting and worrying about nothing. I opted for the Valium which I recommend. The actual surgery was pain-less. The only part that was uncomfortable was the suction cup over the eye. The part that startles you is the sound (zap zap zap) of the laser and the smell. Be prepared for that part of it. They really don't give you much direction other than look into the light. With in 15 minutes your back in the waiting room for another 30 minutes until they check you and off you go. They recommend keeping your eyes closed for 4 hours which is easy to do. You'll want to take a nap. Then you wake up and you can see the clock that's 6-10 inches from your nose. A magical moment.The mono vision has not worked for me but everyone is different. I could noticeably see that my left eye was blurry and I could not see near as well with my right eye closed. I has had the halo effect. The right eye is perfect. So I did a touch up a week later on my left which was another 3 hour experience. On the 3 hours, it does not make sense to me that you sit and wait around for 2 hours before you start the process. I would think they could be more efficient but I guess they want to make sure you are there when they are ready. The other issue I had was since I was not going to take the Valium, I thought I would be able to drive home. That's not the case. Which added to the stress of being there 3 hours on a Friday afternoon. Dr. Melki in the end let me do so. He put a contact in my eye to protect it and away I went. Not a problem at all driving.It's still not perfect but a lot better, also less halos. We are going to give it some time to see if it improves. Dr. Melki reassured me that if it does not improve, we will do it again. While I believe there are some areas that could be improved about the process and the staff's soft-side skills, I would still choose Dr. Melki. Matter of fact, My wife will be having it done within a few months by Dr. Melki.I hope the detail helps with understanding what to expect from the process. Yelp certainly helped me with my decision and it's one I do not regret! PK
