Dr. Berman,I wanted to say thank you again for changing and making my life exponentially better. I have struggled with Strabismus since I was a child. I was able to adjust my life and adapt to this condition, although at times it was extremely bothersome. About 6 months ago it got to such a bad point that performing normal daily activities, such as driving, hiking, biking etc became almost undoable due to my horrible double vision. At that time life became very bleak, and I was extremely discouraged not being able to live the active life style I always had.Simple things like hiking on a moderately rocky trail, or riding a mountain bike on even an easy trail became very difficult. Driving was also very difficult. The double vision had become completely debilitating. Trying to focus with my eye in turned caused headaches, and made me tired constantly trying to focus. Life definitely was not much fun when my eye was at its worst. After an eye test with Associated Eye care, I was immediately referred to Dr Berman and was told he would absolutely be able to help me out with my condition. My first meeting with Dr Berman and his team went exceptionally well. They provided me a very thorough examination with extensive testing to determine what the best course of action would be to correct my vision and allow me to live a normal life again. My eye sight was actually very good with 20 20 vision. The major problem was, my eyes were not working together, which is what was causing my severe double vision. Dr Berman concluded eye glasses would not help with my condition and there would be no reason for me to purchase glasses.Dr. Berman told me he would be able to fix and correct my double vison. He was extremely confident in his ability to help me get back to living a normal life. This made the decision for me to have Strabismus surgery a very easy one. Most importantly, due to Dr Bermans confidence in his ability to perform the surgery with great results, I felt much more comfortable with my decision to proceed with the operation. His staff were very professional and able to get me scheduled to have the operation in less than a month.Post operation, My life has completely changed for the better. I am able to live the life I always had before my eyes got so bad from Strabismus. My double vision is completely gone. I cant begin to explain how blessed I feel to have my eyesight better than it has been since I was a kid. One thing I never had was depth perception. After the surgery it is like a whole new world being able to look at things and actually have depth perception.. Its almost like seeing the world in 3D for the first time. For anyone with Strabismus, I would highly highly recommend scheduling a meeting with Dr Berman and his team to go over options that are available. If it is determined surgery is the best option, I would absolutely recommend having it done. I cant thank Dr Berman enough for completely changing my life for the better.. I wish I had done this years ago. I wish I knew the option to completely correct my double vision was possible. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Steve IlesSteve Iles

While almost all of us have had some sort of issue during the "times of Covid19", Dr. Holly McCarthy continues to provide outstanding services at the Lowell Street location. Systemic policies seem to be working well, staff and processing worked fine, but Dr. McCarthy is absolutely fantastic. Her notes were in order, her questions logical, her answers to my questions made sense, and he tableside manner is personable, caring, and warm. I highly recommend Dr. McCarthy and this location for genuine and professional eye care.

I recently brought my 15-month-old daughter to see Dr. Berman for a lazy eye condition. Both my father and I have it and I started noticing her symptoms when she was 6 months old. After speaking with my eye doctor (who I have been seeing for 25 years) and my daughters pediatrician, both agreed having her seen early would be best. Each person I spoke with at Maine Eye Center before meeting the doctor was pleasant. I cannot say the same for Dr. Berman. He did not acknowledge my daughter when he entered the room. Before examining her, he questioned why I had even brought her in because her eye was not turning in yet which is a symptom of the condition. I told him that we have a family history of lazy eye and her eye becomes droopy when tired as mine did at her age. Even after my explanation, he still questioned why I was there. His first examination was cold and uncompassionate. He quickly got up and walked out while my child was screaming as the eye drops were being put in. We had to wait the 45 minutes in our car for her eyes to dilate. I was told on the phone we would have the choice to wait in the waiting room but was not given that option during the visit. His second examination happened with ZERO explanation. I was told to hold her arms while his technician held her face and he manhandled her head, which resulted in large red marks below her eyes where his thumb was pressing. The whole time my child is screaming and he could care less. He then proceeded to yell at his technician because she did not hear what he said which made me extremely uncomfortable. That technician was also the ONLY person in the entire practice that acknowledged my daughter and treated her like the scared child that she was. This is a pediatricians office and the entire staff including the doctor had ZERO skills to interact with kids. After all that Dr. Berman told me that there is nothing wrong with her eyes and quickly dismissed us like we were wasting his time. For the record, I would not put my 15 month old through 2 hours of torture if I did not think it was necessary. It is clear that this man knows he is the only option for pediatric ophthalmology in the area. He knows that he can treat his patients any way that he wants because we do not have any other choice. I am surprised he fit through the door with the size of his ego. I work in healthcare and have never experienced anything so aggressive and disrespectful as I did with him. Dr. Berman, you should be ashamed of yourself. It amazes me that you have a license to practice medicine, ON CHILDREN!I have spoken with 5 other families and they have all said they had the same experience with him. I will be following in their footsteps and NEVER going back.
