This process of getting LASIK was very nerve wracking for me. I was very nervous and unsure about the pain, the discomfort, or how I would adjust not doing simple movements with my eyes. I wanted to do this procedure because contacts were too much of a nuisance. Especially because I am going to college next year, contacts and glasses would be two extra things that I would need to bring and continue to keep up with to make sure I would never run out. Before my procedure one of the woman led me through everything they were going todo and explained what each eye drop did/when I should use them, while also providing a schedule for each drop. Each person in the office was very helpful diligently answering my questions.During the procedure, Boston Laser's doctors and nurses there in the room were very comforting and encouraging. Dr. Brenner was encouraging by helping me through the process and comforting me when necessary. He lead me through what was happening during the procedure, which was very soothing. Often telling me that "we were almost done" or "we got through the hard part." Phrases like that calmed me and forced myself to think that it would be over within minutes. And in fact I was in the laser suite for about 10 minutes, quick and easy. The procedure itself was only slightly painful, but the nurses kept reapply numbing drops to make sure I did not feel anything. After my procedure it was hazy and quite blurry. Another doctor checked my eyes and let me go. The first hours were very painful for me and the sunlight on the way home did not help. I got home and attempted to sleep, but the pain in one of my eyes was too much. I took an ibuprofen and fell asleep for 4.5 hours after. This nap relieved my pain as well as relaxed my eyes. After that I took an ibuprofen every 4 hours to help with the pain and continued with the prescribed eyedrops as well as the natural eye drops you can get over the counter. The next day I woke up with very little pain (And I could see clearly!!!), but my eyes were slightly itchy. At my follow up appointment, the doctor told me to religiously use the natural eye drops because they will help with the itch. I went through a pack of 32 in one day, but my eyes felt very little discomfort. So far, so good even though it is hard to keep away from rubbing my eyes or squinting. Also, wear sunglasses outside, the light can be painful.

Can't say enough great things about Boston Laser. Dr. Melki and his staff are amazing. Lasik was quick, painless - my only regret is not doing this sooner. Thank you again to Dr. Melki and his amazing staff @ Boston Laser!

I had a great Lasik experience with the Boston Eye Group. From the date I called to get my consultation appointment to the date that I actually got my surgery was under two weeks which was a huge draw for me. Their process for going through all of the tests during the consultation was very efficient. They answered all my questions and I never felt rushed but the appointment only needed to take about 90 minutes. On the day of the surgery everyone I interacted with was very nice and were all familiar faces from my consultation. After going home and sleeping for a few hours I woke up with nearly perfect vision. Street signs and other things far away (50 ft +) were still blurry on the first day, but after a night of sleep I felt like I had a better prescription than I ever had with glasses or contacts. The drops and the after care has been super easy and the only minor inconvenience is having to sleep with the plastic guards over your eyes.

I am writing an update 2 years post Lasik. I have no ill will against Boston Laser itself but wanted to post an update regarding a complication that I had. Even though my vision was 20/20 immediately after the procedure, my vision did get slightly worse. Not too bad that I can complain or need glasses at this moment, but I always felt that even though I could "see", my eye sight was always 95% at best. It's a really difficult feeling to describe but I can no longer experience that crystal clear vision that I had when I wore glasses and my eyes always feel a bit off (not anything related to my ability to see but my eyeballs itself feel off). I developed dry eye, starbursts, and halos which are extremely common. The dry eye got better over time but night vision is a little tough. These symptoms werent bad in my experience and they were things I could cope with. The other more significant complication was the developement of eye floaters. These are specks/cobwebs/stringy pieces in your vision and they are permanent. If you're watching TV, it's like having a dead pixel on the screen. I have these specks in my vision now, and even though there is no research to prove that Lasik causes floaters, there is a correlation linking people who had Lasik done and them getting floaters later on. Hopefully more research will be done in the future so more people are aware. If you ask your eye doctor about floaters and they downplay this possible outcome, I would go to another doctor. (Please also note that people can get floaters with age, and floaters don't only occur because of eye surgery). If I could undo this procedure I would. Glasses/contact lenses are annoying, but I'd rather deal with the annoyance than to see permanent specks in my vision. Side effects/complications aren't the same for everyone, but please do your research on this procedure and know that your eyes are a really important asset. Ive had friends/family who have had eye surgery at this same facility and they had positive outcomes. But everyone's eyes aren't the same. Please don't take the gamble if you aren't ready to face the risks involved.
