Sadly Dr Rothbart just completed his 3rd procedure on my spine. (Lumbarectomy and (2) Cervical fusions) Dr Rothbart, his PA Clay, their staff, the PT's, the team at Texas Harris Hospital, they all listen, they are smart, thorough, thoughtful, consider all of the alternatives, don't do surgery unless it's the final option, and are considerate of peoples lives and their time. Recovery from these procedures can be really long, but we are prayerful that life returns to normal, and as I told Dr Rothbart "I hope to never see you again unless it's at the grocery store or a charity event". Dr Rothbart saved me again ! I had neck surgery in 09 and back surgery in 24 and after each surgery I woke up from surgery completely free of pain. Before each surgery I had been in pain meds 5-6x per days for months and after surgery I only took ibuprofen a few times ! Read review
He has completed two surgeries. One cervical that was an emergency as a disc was blown and l was in excruciating pain. Several years later a lower lumbar surgery with a plate put in. His entire team at Southlake is superb!! PT, Dr Reeves and all. I had to move last year to San Antonio. I will always have spine issues as l have degenerative disc disease. I miss Spine Team & those l trust. Folks, there are not places like Spine Team. Ive read reviews saying negative things about Dr. Rothbart. His bedside manner is who he is. He is holding your spine in his hands & its serious. When he scolded me for over using a heating pad that caused sunburn patches. Did l get upset? No! He even spoke to my husband. Basically in a stern tone saidkeep that away from her. He cares. When he was going over the scans and showing us what he was going to do. I told him I trusted him & he didnt need to explain. Again, he says sternly. While l appreciate your trust you MUST listen & UNDERSTAND what l am going to do. The surgery was serious. I had to take a leave of absence as recovery was a year. That was okay. Because he took great care of me. BTW the psychiatric appointment is a necessity & standard practice for a serious surgery. Best news for all is l didnt have a cancerous tumor. I had severe pain in my right arm, hand, and in my neck as well as numbness in my arm. MRI and CT scan revealed osteoarthritis in my C5, C6, C7, T1. I was told surgery was only option but I got 4 opinions just to be sure. One of those (the third) was Dr Rothbart. I liked him the best and he got great reviews. When I met with him he seemed to be more informed. In fact, he discovered that the issue involved 4 vertebrae even though the MRI lab identified only 2 and the other 3 doctors did not catch it. The lab amended the report after he pointed it out and his CT scan proved it. The surgery went well and I am in recovery. Everything from the initial and follow up doctor appointments to the surgery to the rehab occurs in the same facility. I can't recommend the Spine Team of Texas and Dr Rothbart enough. Read review

From reception to final goodbyes, I've never encountered a more competent group of professionals maintaining a wonderful demeanor about them. Dr. Rothbart and his team are truly interested in each patient as a person, and tailor treatment and minimally invasive procedures when appropriate. I recently saw Dr. Rothbart for a spine issue that was discovered after an injury. I was a nurse practitioner for a neurosurgeon in another city for 30 years and retired 11 years ago. I found Dr. Rothbart to be polite, personable, thorough, practical and VERY conservative. This is the way that I was trained, so I greatly appreciate his approach to spinal surgery. Even though my MRI scan didn't look great, I have very few symptoms and a normal exam. His comment to me was perfect...."I don't operate on MRI scans, I operate on people." Dr. Rothbart is very professional. In my case, he referred back to my previous surgery and then looked at what was going on now to see what changes were going on. This allowed him to make the best recommendations for me. He isn't the kind of doctor who jumps in to do a surgery that isn't needed, but will only do surgery WHEN it is absolutely needed. Dr. Rothbart is brilliant, caring and empathetic. he may just have diagnosed me correctly after 25 years of seeing a plethora of specialists to determine why my entire body was in chronic, excruciating pain on a daily basis. His support staff are fantastic! Lisa in Scheduling and his nurse, Sharon, were thorough, very responsive and efficient. An amazing practice of the very finest in medical care. The only negative comment I have is that they cheaped out on the heavy entry doors and do not have a button for disabled folks to push to automatically open the front doors. Given the fact that most patients are suffering from spine issues and should not be lifting heavy items such as opening these very heavy steel and glass doors, they should take a little of their massive profits and invest in automatic door openers for the patients in wheelchairs and others such as I suffering from Degenerative disc/joint disease who is under physician's orders not to do so. Had lumbar fusion w Dr. Rothbart in March. BEST DECISION Ive made. Im pain free and feel like a new person. He gave me my life back. Was in pain for several months but my run was declining for a long time and had a limp. Pain going down the leg and foot and eventually got into quality of life. Couldnt stand long or walk but a half mile or so. Dr Rothbart recommended surgery and I felt comfortable with his decision and explanation. I have been to a lot of Drs. in different locations but I have never been anywhere that I have received such care and compassion. You don't have enough stars on your rating for the treatment I received. Dr Rotbart made me feel like I was his only patient and did everything he could to help me. Ive been a patient of Spine Team Texas since 2009. Based on my condition, i knew Id need a spinal fusion at some point but was afraid of what could happen so I delayed as long as possible. In 2015, I could no longer handle the constant pain and discussed the situation with my doctor at this practice. She said that if she needed the surgery, Dr. Rothbart would be her choice. She mentioned that he was very type A. When I met him for my surgical consult, he was matter of fact, but answered every question I had (and I had more than a few). He told me there are two types of people, those who when surgery is a success will get better, and those who when surgery is a success will still have the woe is me attitude and will claim no change in their pain / issues. Sure hes not terribly warm and fuzzy, but I didnt want a surgeon who was warm and fuzzy, I wanted the best surgeon skill wise. To this day I say that having the surgery by Dr. Rothbart was the best thing I ever did. So much so that when I ended up needing surgery for a situation that happened suddenly in 2018, I had no issues with having Dr. Rothbart perform that one as well. Admittedly, he did get upset with me when I tried to schedule this surgery around work...however, he explained that the condition was what warranted surgery immediately. I knew that was true and I shouldnt have tried to postpone it. Do I wish he responded better in that one moment? sure...but he was right. Do what I did, find an amazing and personable doctor whom you see regularly and can hold your hand and tell you everything will be alright and then find the best skilled surgeon regardless of personality when necessary. I hope that this review can help someone go into an appointment with Dr. Rothbart with some understanding of his personality (or at least my perception of his personality) because while hes not the most personable of doctors, at the end of the day, hes a remarkable surgeon. I couldn't be happier with results and the professional, yet friendly way I was treated. By the time I was finally referred to the Spine Team I was about at the end of my rope with pain. Dr. Rothbart performed surgery on my lower back in December, 2018, and I had an excellent result. I no longer am experiencing drop foot, and I have regained much of my strength in my leg. I would highly recommend Dr. Rothbart. Don't let people don't have back surgery. If you need it you need it, and it is important to have is sooner rather than later to prevent muscle atrophy. I am an RN and Im particularly picky about who I trust with my health. Dr Rothbart was extremely thorough in his initial assessment and spent a significant amount of time with me. He reviewed my CT and X-rays with me and talked to me both as a professional and a patient. I had an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion at 2 levels. Dr. Rothbart worked me into a very busy day for him after my results came out on a CT scan. He was quite concerned and his team (as always) worked together to schedule all the procedures to get me ready for surgery. Im a Medicare patient and he NEVER showed any sign that that mattered in the least. Hes very professional and caring. The Spine TEAM is his best asset though. I cant thank Dr Rothbart and his team enough. First off the facility and people give you what I call The Ritz Carlton experience. With a twist of course, you don't want to go back but if you have to you won't mind too much. As for any surgery, I think avoiding is good, Dr Rothbarts was of the same opinion but he explained why surgery was necessary. I really can't say enough how amazing Dr. Rothbart is, he perform surgery on my neck on Oct. 30th 2017 because my spine was compressing on my nerve, on Nov. 9 th 2017 he remove a bad disc in my lower back, everything was done within a 2 week span, a week after surgery I was walking fine, no pain , I even return to work light duty not long after surgery, now I return to work full duty and never felt better, I use to have a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders and had trouble walking because of all the pain in my left leg, but no more , pain went away almost immediately, able to walk without any issues, very caring doctor I was very nervous about the neck surgery and he assure me everything would be okay , so to Dr. Rothbart and his staff from the surgery room to the front office when entering ( the 2 ladies at the front desk is awesome ) to the Physical Therapy ( Whitney ) thank you so much for everything you guys are amazing.... Dr Rothbart was my second opinion. The first had me scheduled for surgery in two weeks Dr Rothbart was kind and took the time to explain. Dr Rothbart is an amazing surgeon. I had significant cervical spine issues that were causing me to lose use of my left arm. He performed 3 surgeries in the last 18 months to correct these issues, the last was a posterior multi level fusion. I have not had a single after effect from any of his procedures, and I am completely free of nerve pain. Before doing any surgeries he completely exhausted all other non-surgical options. Dr. Rothbart is probably one of the best spine surgeons around. I found him to be informative and very insistent that you take responsibility for your part of your care in order to have the best outcome. In my case, I had to quit smoking. If you're looking for a shoulder to cry on then Dr. Rothbart is not your person. I agree with other reviews that you can feel like he is a little cold hearted. If you're looking for someone who is all business and direct give him a try. Do your homework. There is more than enough information on the internet to have a good understanding of what is causing your problem. Just search on your symptoms. I met with him well armed with information. He scheduled a myelogram. I highly recommend the myelogram. Levels above the clarity of a MRI. While going through the myelogram digital pictures with me he verified everything I suspected. Dr. R performed my C5/C6 ACDF. 1.5 yrs later I still have slight numbness at the tip of my middle finger and down to 2nd joint of index finger. From internet searches this seems to be typical. I regret I did not go to him earlier. He will be my go to guy if I am unfortunate to have other spinal problems. Read review

I have been going to this clinic for about 5 years and had nothing but good experiences from the front desk to the recovery room. Shots, PT I've been through it all and getting ready to finally have surgery. That is the last resort. I would rather have a doctor that is knowledgeable than one who gives the warm fuzzies. I have seen 4 of the top ranked spine surgeons as rated by US News & World Report. Dr Rothbart and his staff were awesome. He recommended the least invasive surgical option of the 4 to fixing my L4/L5/S1 herniated discs. He took a lot of time to identify the cause of the pain, explained everything to me, gave me expected percentages of relieving the pain with each option, provided timelines for recovery post surgery and answered all my questions. Took my dad to see Dr Rothbart. He was very professional and recommended surgery. Surgery was performed and my dad was completely pain free immediately. I didn't expect for Dr. Rothbart to be doting, as he is a super focused surgeon who I felt knew a ton about the kind of surgery I was being required to have and also knew where my specific problem areas were... which is what I care most about when it comes to doctors.
