Dr. Jacob Lang literally saved my life and my quality of life. After successfully quitting drinking on 1/11/2023, I expected my health to recover and hoped my eyeswhich had been severely red, dry, and irritated for the majority of 20 yearswould finally heal. Instead, in April 2023, my regular eye doctor completely dismissed my chronic symptoms as just basic dry eyes. I knew something deeper was wrong. I randomly found Dr. Jacob Lang and made an appointment on 7/12/2023. Thank God for Dr. Jacob Lang. He treats complex ocular surface cases with a level of expertise, precision, and deep compassion that you cannot find anywhere else. He gave me answers and healing when other doctors failed.Never in my life had I felt as disabled as I did during this time. I spent about 75% of the time between July 12, 2023, and January 4, 2024, confined to my bed because it was so incredibly painful to even open my eyes. The treatment process was grueling and, quite frankly, awful. As the very first step, we tried a freeze-dried amniotic membrane tissue on my cornea, which stayed on my eye for 7-10 days until it dissolved. It might have helped a little, but my eyes needed so much more. Dr. Jacob Lang then tried the cryogenically frozen kind two separate times. When the amniotic membrane tissues didnt work, he treated me with Oxervate (a nerve regrowth factor). Because my intensive treatment plan required me to be in the eye clinic every few days, his incredible clinic staff completely wrapped their arms around me. They constantly welcomed me with so much warmth, even joking that I had my own designated parking spot.When I hit major hurdles on my disability journey, Dr. Jacob Lang went completely above and beyond. He took the extensive time required to engage in meaningful, meticulous medical dialogue with third-party providers so that my short-term and, subsequently, long-term disability was approved. He even hand-wrote personal notes on the form, he cared.I also have to give a massive, special shout-out to Jesse, who handles their triage calls. I jokingly tell people I still have her on speed dial, but in all seriousness, she was the essential go-between for me and Dr. Jacob Lang. She held my hand and helped me navigate an incredibly scary and difficult road. Dr. Jacob Lang, Jesse, and all of the other front and back office clinic team were incredible. They made an intense medical and administrative battle feel safe, dignified, and full of care.If you are struggling with severe chronic eye issues, thank goodness doctors like Dr. Jacob Lang and professionals like Jesse exist. They are the absolute best.
